Lade Omotade is a News and Feature Author at Collider with a passion for exploring the ever-evolving world of the Film & TV industry. Her work centers on covering the latest news, from casting announcements and franchise scoops to streaming updates and behind-the-scenes shifts that shape the way stories are told.

Omotade approaches storytelling with both professional insight and unapologetic fandom; digging into what makes a franchise successful, spotlighting rising voices in Hollywood, and asking the questions fans are already buzzing about. Her writing reflects that mix: part industry analysis, part fan excitement, and always grounded in a love for the craft of storytelling.

Jason Statham has since become a household name in the action genre, and over the years of his career, fans have seen him attached to multiple successful franchises. His defining early franchise starter is The Transporter (2002), in which he played Frank Martin, establishing his persona as a premier action star. The franchise comprises four films and a TV series, though the action icon appeared in only the first 3 films before Ed Skrein took over in the 2015 reboot. Other franchises featuring Statham include The Meg, The Expendables, Fast & Furious, and, most recently, The Beekeeper.

As his most recent franchise-starter, The Beekeeper was released on January 12, 2024, to positive reviews from critics. A second installment, titled The Beekeeper 2, is expected next year, but in the meantime, many have been flocking to the first film, which has once again become popular on streaming platforms. In addition to Statham, The Beekeeper stars Emmy Raver-Lampman, Josh Hutcherson, Bobby Naderi, Minnie Driver, Phylicia Rashad, and Jeremy Irons. It follows Statham as Adam Clay, a retired government assassin who sets out for revenge after his kind-hearted landlady falls victim to a phishing scam.

The Beekeeper is a hit on Prime Video in the US, just a few days after trending globally on HBO Max. 24 hours ago, the action thriller entered the charts at #9, and as of February 4, 2026, it has moved up one spot. Leading the list is The Wrecking Crew, starring Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa, followed by another Statham-starrer, A Working Man. Sinners ranks #3 while A Minecraft Movie and Ready Player One round out the top 5. Other movies among the top 10 are A Cinderella Story, The Legend of Tarzan, Playdate, and Warcraft.

Jason Statham Returns As 'The Beekeeper' Soon

Compared to The Beekeeper, which was directed by David Ayer and written by Kurt Wimmer, the sequel is directed by Timo Tjahjanto and written by Umair Aleem. Statham, Raver-Lampman, Naderi, Redgrave, and Irons will reprise their roles, while new additions to the cast include Yara Shahidi, Pom Klementieff, and Adam Copeland. The Beekeeper 2 is scheduled to be released worldwide on January 15, 2027, by Amazon MGM Studios.
