Jason Momoa Cameos In The Fall Guy's Ending As Himself

Momoa is the new star of the pretend movie Metalstorm

In The Fall Guy's ending, Jason Momoa makes a surprise cameo appearance. The film centers around Ryan Gosling's titular stuntman - Colt Seavers - searching for the missing star of a movie called Metalstorm, directed by Emily Blunt's character Jody. Colt becomes wrapped up in a conspiracy that results in the revelation that the missing star, Aaron Taylor Johnson's Tom Ryder, killed another stuntman. Eventually, Ryder is fired from Metalstorm and arrested, paving the way for Momoa's cameo.

The Fall Guy's ending reveals that Momoa is the actor hired to replace Tom Ryder in the lead role of Jody's movie. This means that the former is playing a meta, fictionalized version of himself in The Fall Guy, acting in Jody's movie Metalstorm. With The Fall Guy's film-within-a-film story being self-referential, hiring Momoa to play himself perfectly matches the film's tone. The explanation for the cameo even extends into The Fall Guy's post-credits scene.

The Fall Guy teased Momoa's cameo earlier in the film when Colt finds a sticky note from Ryder reading "Is it Momoa or Mamoa?"

Jason Momoa's The Fall Guy Cameo Sets Up A Role In The Sequel

Although Momoa's cameo in The Fall Guy is a fun gag in its own right, it could also set up a story for The Fall Guy 2. A sequel to The Fall Guy has not been confirmed, though Momoa's inclusion could lead to a continuation. The first film centered around Colt being wrapped up in the drama of Ryder's life, something that could easily continue if Momoa was utilized in a sequel. Not only would this allow a perfect on-screen duo in Jason Momoa and Ryan Gosling, but it would also continue The Fall Guy's meta sense of humor.

Having Momoa in a larger role as a fictionalized version of himself could lead to some fantastic self-referential comedy. If this was the case, The Fall Guy 2 could continue the first movie's story of having Colt embroiled in an actor's business, though potentially with the notable change of Momoa not being the villain. This would allow a potential sequel to The Fall Guy to feel familiar yet fresh, all while capitalizing on Momoa's hilarious cameo from the first movie.

Why Jason Momoa Has A Cameo In The Fall Guy

He fills in for Aaron-Taylor Johnson's character in the fictional movie

Jason Momoa plays himself in The Fall Guy in a meta-movie moment. He is brought in to replace Aaron-Taylor Johnson's fictional movie star character Tom Ryder after Ryan Gosling's Colt Seavers, Tom's stuntman, exposes him. It turns out that at the end of The Fall Guy, Tom Ryder had been conspiring with Gail Meyer, his loyal and ruthless producer, to get rid of Colt out of jealousy that he was stealing the spotlight during the production of Jody Moreno's fictional action sci-fi film, Metalstorm. After Colt finds Tom, who has "gone missing" on Gail's yacht, he is framed and nearly killed but in the end, he makes both Tom and Gail pay.

Momoa, who is one of the big-name stars in Denis Villeneuve's 2021 sci-fi blockbuster Dune, fills in for Tom Ryder after he is fired from Jody's movie once his and Gail's scheme is unearthed. The Fall Guy ends with Tom exploding to death and Gail likely faces criminal charges thanks to the quick response of Lee Majors and Heather Thomas's cop characters, who played Colt and Jody in the 1980s Fall Guy television series, respectively. Metalstorm already has satirical elements of Dune with its sci-fi themes and desert setting, which makes Momoa a hilarious and spot-on choice to take Tom's role in the fictional movie-within-a-movie.
