Jane Schoenbrun’s Summer Slasher, ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,’ Gets a Seasonally Appropriate Release Date

Come on, now, we all know it: There’s no better time for a summer camp slasher to hit theaters than during actual summer. Filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun gets it. Their distributor MUBI gets it. And we’re all about to get it when Schoenbrun’s third feature, “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,” arrives in theaters this August.

MUBI has today announced that the film, starring Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson (and you can get a look at them up top, in one of two official first looks stills shared by the distro today), will arrive in U.S. theaters on August 7, 2026. Schoenbrun, the brilliant filmmaker behind “We’re All Going to the World’s Fair” and “I Saw the TV Glow,” also wrote the feature. The film also stars Amanda Fix, Arthur Conti, Eva Victor, Zach Cherry, Sarah Sherman, Patrick Fischler, Dylan Baker, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Quintessa Swindell, Kevin McDonald, and Jack Haven.

Per today’s announcement, the film’s logline is as follows: “After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.”

When the film was first announced last May, Schoenbrun shared, “I make movies I wish existed when I was a kid and ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’ is my best attempt at the ‘sleepover classic:’ an insane yet cozy midnight odyssey that beckons to unsuspecting viewers from the horror section at the local video store. I couldn’t be more excited to be heading to sleepaway camp this summer with the mad comic genius Hannah Einbinder, the legendary Gillian Anderson, and the daring folks at MUBI and Plan B, who by greenlighting this movie have summoned a plague-like flood of blood, guts, and various other fluids to rain down on us all.”

Today’s announcement also provided a brief update on Schoenbrun’s other big projects, noting that their first novel “Public Access Afterworld,” is still on track to be published by Hogarth in 2026. In the TV space, Schoenbrun is still “set to write, direct, and executive produce the acclaimed graphic novel ‘Black Hole’ as a TV series for Netflix with Plan B and New Regency,” which was announced last October.

Brad Pitt’s Plan B produced the film. Daniel Bekerman, who executive produced, provided local production services via his Scythia Films. MUBI financed the film and will distribute in select territories, including North America, Latin America, UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Benelux, Turkey, India, Australia, and New Zealand, with The Match Factory handling remaining worldwide sales.
