Apple TV has greenlighted Disavowed, an action thriller series starring and executive produced by James Marsden (Paradise). The show, created by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (Uncharted) based on an original idea by them, comes from Apple Studios and Blue Marble Pictures, the company behind the streamer’s praised drama series Pachinko.

In Disavowed, Marsden will play legendary CIA Case Officer Brad Griffin, who is abruptly fired in the middle of a global hunt for an elusive assassin responsible for killing his colleague. Disgraced and outcast from the world of intelligence, all bets are off when Brad decides to go after the 15 million dollar federal bounty on the assassin’s head.

This marks the first TV series for Marcum and Holloway, who will executive produce alongside veteran showrunner Tom Spezialy, Marsden and Blue Marble Pictures’ Theresa Kang and Caroline Garity.

Disavowed had been on the runway since at least last July when casting commenced for the lead. Marsden got the offer in September, with the process taking eight more months until Disavowed was formally greenlighted with Marsden starring and executive producing.

The new series extends the Emmy and Golden Globe nominee’s relationship with Apple TV and Apple Studios where Marsden currently stars opposite Jon Hamm on Season 2 of Your Friends & Neighbors.

In features, Marsden currently stars in Hulu’s Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice and next reprises his role as Cyclops in Avengers: Doomsday. He received an Emmy nomination for his role in the Hulu series Paradise and Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for Amazon’s Jury Duty. Marsden is repped by CAA and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Longtime collaborators Marcum and Holloway wrote Iron Man, directed by Jon Favreau and starring Robert Downey Jr., and more recently, they wrote and executive produced Uncharted, directed by Ruben Fleischer and starring Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland. Marcum and Holloway are repped by CAA and Untitled.
