Jade Thirlwall has revealed she 'finally feels seen and understood' after discovering she suffers from 'no burp syndrome' thanks to online campaigner Gemma Renwick.

'No burp syndrome', which is scientifically known as Retrograde cricopharyngeus dysfunction or R-CPD, is a rare condition where the cricopharyngeus muscle in the throat fails to relax making it physically impossible to burp.

Symptoms can result in severe bloating, painful trapped air, chest pressure, abdominal pressure and gurgling noises.

And after seeing one of Gemma's recent TikTok videos raising awareness for R-CPD, Jade commented: 'Omg I finally feel so seen and understood.'

Explaining how it has caused people to constantly comment on her weight she continued: 'It's always been a fun fact that I can't burp but it's caused issues my whole life and I'm sick of people commenting on my weight and body onstage when I'm just bloated af.'

A possible treatment for the condition is to have 'throtox' which is when Botox is injected into the cricopharyngeus muscle to relax it and help release the trapped gas.

Sharing her concerns, Jade added: 'I want to get the throtox but worried it will affect my vocals.'

After seeing Jade had commented on the post, Gemma, who is petitioning for the government to review access to NHS treatment for R-CPD, shared: 'Jade Thirlwall from Little Mix also suffers with R-CPD. Who knew?

'Who knew that she can't burp either? Oh, do you know what? If I, if I can at least help one person change their life by having this treatment, then you know my work here is done.'

Asking Jade to help share the campaign she continued: 'But if somebody as incredible as Jade can get on board with my campaign and spread awareness to her platform.

'It's just so hard to get the word out there. And my petition only lasts until December. I think then they cut it off. And so many people have tried in the past, and no one's ever had enough signatures.

'So Jade, if you're watching, please, please, please, I'd be so grateful for your help if you could just share the petition or share my video.'

Jade previously revealed she couldn't burp in a fun TikTok back in 2023 as she penned: 'I've never burped in my life but I'm still stunning.'

The star previously revealed she faces a 'daily battle' not to turn to Ozempic after years of struggling with eating disorders.

Speaking last year, she said she is now the healthiest she has ever been – but still receives constant comments about her weight online.

Sharing her concerns, Jade added: 'I want to get the throtox but worried it will affect my vocals'

Talking to The Guardian, she revealed: 'I have a daily battle with myself not to go on Ozempic.

'I don't judge people that do, but because I have a history of eating disorders, I don't know where taking something like that would end for me.'

She added that the trolling is a sad consequence of stepping into the spotlight as a solo star: 'Little Mix fans were all about empowerment and celebrating your body however you look.

'Now I'm in my 30s and the healthiest I've ever been, but every time I post a picture, there are comments saying, "She must be pregnant."'

She added: 'The sad thing is that it's usually women. But people are used to seeing me in a group environment five or 10 years ago when I was stick-thin because I was in my early 20s with an eating disorder.'

Jade has spoken openly that her struggles with food began as a young teenager, when she developed anorexia following the loss of her beloved grandad.

By the time she auditioned for The X Factor, she had only just been discharged from hospital.

What is no-burp syndrome?

Symptoms of Retrograde Cricopharyngeal Dysfunction (R-CPD) or the “No Burp Syndrome” are the lifelong inability to burp, chest pain and discomfort, stomach bloating, gurgling sounds coming out of your throat and flatulence.

These symptoms make social social interaction very stressful.

People with this problem often have to watch what they eat or drink as certain foods may exacerbate the symptoms.

Carbonated beverages and beer are two things many patients comment they must avoid.

Treatment  can include a Botox injection of the cricopharyngeus muscle.

This is performed under general anesthesia using a minimally invasive approach through the mouth.

The surgery is day surgery that takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes.
