Oscars 2026: Jacob Elordi Officially Fulfills Promise Made to His Mom
Jacob Elordi is feeling euphoric at the 2026 Oscars.
After the Euphoria star revealed that he promised his mom Melissa Elordi 13 years ago that she would be his date for the March 15 award ceremony, he kept his promise.
Indeed, the actor—who was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role category for his performance as The Creature in Frankenstein—stepped onto the red carpet in a classic Bottega Veneta. Meanwhile, the matriarch arrived in a black gown, featuring red and blue sequined flowers all over. (Click here to see all the celebrity arrivals.)
Jacob first made the proclamation to Melissa when he was just a teenager, though his parents weren't sure if it would come to fruition.
"I'm going to take mom," he explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in January of his Oscars date. "I promised her when I was 15 that I would take her. So, I have to honor that."
“My mom, she fully believed in me the whole time. I remember dad did the dad thing at one point where he was like, ‘You’ve got to have a plan B because this isn't necessarily feasible. And I think I said something like, ‘My plan B is the Oscars.’”
And it’s clear that Jacob had the right idea. Although Sean Penn ultimately took home the Oscar, Frankenstein did win Best Costume Design, Best Makeup & Hairstyling, and Best Production Design.
It was an earned trophy, with the 28-year-old spending at least 10 hours every day getting into makeup alone, which consisted of wearing over two dozen prosthetics.
"I told him, ‘Look, it's like when a priest is getting dressed, there are many layers to the robes and the ceremonial guard," director Guillermo del Toro explained to E! News in October. "You have to think, 'This is your Ceremonial Guard. You're invoking the Creature.'"
The filmmaker continued, “And the result is heartbreaking and beautiful. It’s a really naked performance—emotionally so close to innocence that it breaks your heart."

Jacob agreed, describing his transformation as "consuming."
"Your skin gets washed out and covered with something new. Your face, and its structure, change," he told Netflix's Tudum in November. "Then you put the costume on and there’s leather and furs, and the weight—it’s all real."
Becoming the iconic monster also meant shifting into a whole different mental state. As Jacob put it, "There’s a point where you have to leave the world behind."
"You have to close all the doors to your house emotionally," he explained of his preparation for the role. "You close your ears off and close your eyes off and change the way that you see things—all the regular things that you would do in a day, like eating and showering. They have to take on a new life to be able to shift into something else."
