Emily Brontë’s iconic 1847 novel Wuthering Heights has been adapted countless times for the big screen and small, but this year we get a fresh new version of the story courtesy of Oscar-nominated writer-director Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman, Saltburn) and stars Margot Robbie‘s and Jacob Elordi.
Arriving in theaters rather appropriately on Valentine’s Day, Fennell’s Wuthering Heights chronicles the stars Elordi as Heathcliff, the brooding orphan whose all‑consuming love for Catherine Earnshaw (Robbie) sets off a chain of passion, heartbreak, and tragedy. Chances are, you’ve read the novel; you know how it goes.
Ahead of the film’s release, Fandango correspondent Nikki Novak sat down with Fennell, Elordi, Robbie, and their co-stars Alison Oliver, Hong Chau, and Shazad Latif for a wide-ranging conversation about the film. In the interview, the cast reflects on bringing the novel to life nearly 180 years after its publication, as Fennell shares her early vision for tackling the classic. In a particularly juicy revelation, Elordi opens up about the chemistry between him and Robbie on set, as they felt the emotional intensity between Heathcliff and Catherine.
