New details revealed about the upcoming series It: Welcome to Derry essentially guarantee one of the scariest forms of Pennywise will appear in the show. It: Welcome to Derry will premiere on Max in 2025 and serves as a prequel to It and It Chapter Two. Andy Muschietti, director of both It films, returned alongside his sister Barbara Muschietti and screenwriter Jason Fuchs to develop the series. It: Welcome to Derry's cast includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, and Stephen Rider.

In addition to the previously mentioned cast members, Bill Skarsgård will also return as Pennywise the Clown, which earned him a wealth of acclaim when both It and It Chapter Two were released. It: Welcome to Derry will explore the history of Derry, Maine and of Pennywise's role in numerous horrific events that took place in the town. New images for It: Welcome to Derry have been released, which show Mike's father, Will Hanlon, in an Air Force uniform. In Stephen King's It, Will sees Pennywise in one of his wildest forms in the entire novel.

It: Welcome To Derry's Black Spot Teases Pennywise's Giant Bird Form

Pennywise Changes Forms Based On His Victims' Fear

In one of the interludes in the It novel, Will tells Mike about a nightclub called The Black Spot, which catered to Black patrons. One night, The Black Spot was burned down by a white supremacist group called the Maine Legion of White Decency. While the nightclub was burning, Will spotted Pennywise appear as a giant bird, which swooped down from the sky and snatched up one of the victims with its talons. In the book, Pennywise in bird form is described as a mix between a crow and the 1950s kaiju movie monster Rodan, and had balloons attached to its wings.

10 Stephen King Book Moments The HBO Pennywise Prequel Can Reference (That The IT Movies Left Out)

The HBO series Welcome To Derry, which serves as a Pennywise prequel, could include many Stephen King book moments that didn't occur in the IT movies.

The burning of The Black Spot is one of the most horrific events in King's novel. In the It films, Mike sees several arms reaching out of a burning building, a reference to The Black Spot. However, the burning of The Black Spot was never actually shown in the movies. Therefore, the new details about the prequel show prove that It: Welcome to Derry will adapt a lot of as-of-yet unseen events from the novel.

How It: Welcome To Derry Will Expand Pennywise's Story

Pennywise Is One Of Stephen King's Most Interesting Characters

The burning of The Black Spot is just one of many stories that are told in the It novel, between the events of the main story involving Pennywise and the Loser's Club. These stories, which are all part of Mike's research into Pennywise, serve as the inspiration for It: Welcome to Derry. Therefore, it is likely that It: Welcome to Derry will also explore events like the murder of the Bradley Gang and the massacre at the Sleepy Silver Dollar, which are two other unsettling stories featured in the It novel.

Pennywise the Clown is often argued to be the best Stephen King villain.

It: Welcome to Derry will tell several stories, and examine Pennywise's role in the tragedies that take place in Derry. Therefore, the series will likely delve into Pennywise's character and his origins more than the movies had a chance to. This is exciting for fans of the book, since Pennywise the Clown is often argued to be the best Stephen King villain.
