Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Amazing Spider-Man #63Marvel has officially started setting up a new rematch between Spider-Man and Juggernaut. As seen in the current run of Amazing Spider-Man, Peter Parker has become Earth's new champion in the Covenant of Cyttorak, an annual series of trials to keep the world safe normally completed by Doctor Strange, but has now been outsourced to Spider-Man now that Doctor Doom is the new Sorcerer Supreme (and can't be bothered). Now, Juggernaut is about to get involved and will likely end up fighting the Webslinger once more.

By the end of Amazing Spider-Man #63 by Justina Ireland and Marcio Menyz, Spider-Man (wearing new magical armor from Doom) has already taken down three of the eight scions of Cytorrak, the Lord of Oblivion from the Crimson Cosmos whose power Doctor Strange has drawn upon for decades to keep the world safe. This means the Webslinger has also died three times, using the Reeds of Raggadorr to resurrect himself with each fight. However, Spider-Man's role in the Covenant is likely about to get a LOT harder, especially now that Marve's teasing The Unstoppable Juggernaut is on his way.

Marvel Teases Juggernaut's Involvement In The Covenant Cytorrak

It Was Only A Matter of Time Before The Unstoppable X-Man Got Involved

Juggernaut in Amazing Spider-Man #63

A classic X-Men villain turned X-Man, Cain Marko's Juggernaut seems to sense that something is wrong following Spider-Man's third victory against one of Cyttorak's scions. Almost as if in a trance, Juggernaut tells his fellow X-Man Magick that "he must prepare". As such, it's not hard to assume that Spider-Man will soon come face to face with Juggernaut in the issues to come, and Marko may very well find himself compelled by Cyttorak to serve as one of his scions in the Covenant.

Spider-Man has received a new healing factor to rival Wolverine's, allowing him to see for the first time just how brutal the power can truly be.

Juggernaut's teased involvement in future issues of Amazing Spider-Man shouldn't be all that surprising. After all, Marko's power as an unstoppable force has long come from Cyttoarak through his discovery of the Crimson Gem, which turned the half-brother of Charles Xavier into an impressive powerhouse as the deity's Earth-based avatar. To that end, solicitations and previews for future issues have teased the entire X-Men getting involved with the Covenant in some fashion, including a handful of issues where Spider-Man himself may become Cyttorak's new avatar aka "The Spider-Naut", potentially following Marko's possible defeat.

Spider-Man's Rematch With Juggernaut Will Be So Much Bigger Than Their Classic Showdown

Amazing Spider-Man #229-#230

It's worth noting that Spider-Man and Juggernaut's first fight took place in 1982's Amazing Spider-Man #229-230. In it, Juggernaut nearly kills Madame Web and causes massive amounts of collateral damage before Spider-Man manages to trap Marko in the still-wet cement of a new building foundation. Additionally, 2020's Juggernaut #3 directly referenced their epic showdown with Marko being served papers to appear in court and answer for the millions of dollars in damages he caused during that first fight.

"Spider-Man will be mystically amped and likely won't be afraid to pull his punches with Juggernaut, nor of dying for that matter, as he still has more of the Reeds..."

However, one can only imagine how much bigger and far more epic this new rematch will be in the upcoming issues of Amazing Spider-Man. After all, it seems very likely that Cyttorak (or one of his scions) will likely manipulate Juggernaut into taking on Spider-Man. After all, it's been some time since Marko has actually been a villain in the Marvel Universe. Likewise, Spider-Man will be mystically amped and likely won't be afraid to pull his punches with Juggernaut, nor of dying for that matter, as he still has more of the Reeds. At any rate, it should be a very exciting rematch for the ages.
