Euphoria has been one of HBO's biggest hits in recent years, and despite long swaths of time between seasons, it's possible that there could be more on the horizon as its third season comes to a close. The hit series, which stars Zendaya as Rue Bennett as a sometimes-recovering drug addict, quickly became a part of the cultural conversation upon its release in 2019. Known for its intensity, Euphoria revolves around a group of suburban teens as they move through a modern high school full of difficult peers, sex, drugs, and violence. Euphoria season 3 has taken things into adulthood.

With Euphoria season 3's finale, titled "In God We Trust", airing on HBO on Sunday, May 31 at 9 p.m. ET, viewers are already aware that the season will be coming to a close, but the various loose ends of the series may not be fully tied up just yet.

HBO Hasn't Confirmed Euphoria Season 4 Is Happening

Although there was buzz surrounding Euphoria season 3 being the final season of the series early on in the show's production cycle, things have shifted in the months since. Now, Euphoria season 3's finale isn't being specifically billed as a series finale, which could mean that things have changed for the show's potential production. While Euphoria definitely feels like it's been running out of steam this season, things haven't been as dire as they initially seemed.

In the final stretch of Euphoria season 3, the loose threads that didn't seem to have much connection throughout the season have tied together nicely, and the storylines have become increasingly more compelling. While there may not be much left for the show to explore after Euphoria season 3, HBO has yet to confirm that there isn't going to be another season. Euphoria season 4 could be something the network and Levinson explore in the future.

What The Cast & Creator Have Said About Euphoria Season 4

Although the majority of the press surrounding season 3 has made it seem like it will be the end of the series, some quotes from Euphoria creator Levinson have raised eyebrows about the potential for more. While Zendaya and Alexa Demie, who plays Maddy Perez, have both been open in interviews about the fact that this is likely the end of Euphoria, Levinson shared with Variety that he treats "every season like it’s the last season." While he has "no plans" for Euphoria season 4, it's possible that once Euphoria season 3 finishes, Levinson could revisit the story.

Does Euphoria Need A Season 4?

Although Euphoria may close its third season with seemingly no way into another installment, it's been clear throughout the final stretch of episodes that viewers would likely be interested in seeing more from the characters. Until Rue and the rest of the group's fates are revealed, it's not entirely possible to determine whether there's a genuine need for more story, but the attachment viewers feel to the Euphoria characters makes it clear it could be welcomed. As Euphoria season 3 has continued, seeing the characters making similar mistakes in new environments has been exciting, which could bode well for more.

While Euphoria season 3's finale may ultimately be the end of the line, there's still a possibility that the series could return for another season in the future if the story calls for it.
