Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Absolute Batman #16

The Absolute Universe continues to reimagine familiar DC icons in all kinds of epic and unexpected ways. Case in point, heroes like Absolute Batman and Wonder Woman have just begun to join forces (and some familiar sparks may be in the air).

In Absolute Wonder Woman #15, Batman and Wonder Woman meet for the first time in the Absolute Universe, getting to know each other and surviving a trap set by their arch-foes. Now, the newly released Absolute Batman #16 by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta develops Bruce and Diana's relationship even further (along with a potential new "WonderBat" romance).

The Absolute Universe's Batman And Wonder Woman Just Had Their Second Team-Up

The Absolute Universe's Batman and Wonder Woman reunite in Absolute Batman #16 with a far more personal team-up than their first. Using the magical talisman Diana gave him on their first meeting, Bruce summons Diana to request her help to save his friend Waylon Jones, having recently been transformed into Killer Croc thanks to Gotham's sinister Ark M Project.

Venturing into a realm between the surface and the underworld to claim a mythic artifact to help restore Waylon, Batman and Wonder Woman spend days together traveling, surviving dangers, and learning about each other's histories. Additionally, Diana helps Bruce experience a vision that reunites him with his deceased father, Thomas Wayne.

By the issue’s final pages, Batman and Wonder Woman's bond as both allies and friends has undoubtedly been strengthened following their extended time together. While nothing explicitly romantic happens per se, one key moment undeniably opens the door for something more to be developed as the Absolute Universe continues.

The Chemistry Between DC's New Batman and Wonder Woman Has Some Major DCAU Vibes

Batman & Wonder Woman in Absolute Batman #16

Overall, Bruce and Diana's great chemistry and banter feel very similar to Batman and Wonder Woman's relationship in the DC Animated Universe, which did eventually develop into something romantic with various flirtations, shared emotion, and undeniable attraction shared between the two Justice Leaguers.

Wonder Woman flirting with Batman in Justice League Unlimited

While we have this hilarious page in Absolute Batman #16 where Bruce and Diana insist they’re not together, the current denial only adds fuel to the speculation of what might be in the future for the two heroes. Amid all the craziness of this darker DC Universe, it would be amazing to see a brand-new WonderBat develop over time.

The foundation is clearly there, though time will tell if DC ends up taking advantage of the exciting opportunity on their hands with Absolute Batman and Absolute Wonder Woman.
