Insta360's New X6 Packs 8K 360 Video, 1-Inch Equivalent Sensors, and On-Camera AI Editing

Insta360 has announced the X6, the newest flagship in its X series of 360 cameras. The camera goes on sale today, starting at $669.99 for the standard bundle. The company says the launch coincides with its tenth year making 360 cameras.

"X6 is the camera we always wanted to build. It captures everything around you, in any light, and hands you a finished edit before you even reach for your phone," said JK Liu, founder of Insta360.

Sensors and Image Processing

The Insta360 X6 uses dual custom Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors, which Insta360 describes as delivering full 1-inch equivalent 360 imaging. The company puts the sensor area at 33% larger than the Insta360 X5 and claims roughly four times the light intake per frame. Both lenses open to f/2.0 with a 35mm equivalent focal length of 7.78mm.

Processing runs on a triple-chip arrangement: one 8-core 3.3 GHz 4 nm processor paired with two dedicated imaging chips. Insta360 claims 500% more computing power than the X5, a 106% faster clock speed, and 35% lower power draw. A low-light mode adds two ambient light sensors intended to reduce flicker, and AdaptiveTone 2.0 meters each lens independently while capturing two exposures per frame.
