IATSE has made a deal with Mr. Beast. After the producers on Beast Games Season 3 voluntarily recognized the crew’s desire to organize, the trade union revealed Monday that the parties had an agreement.
Per IATSE, the contract covers more than 500 crew members working on the Greenville, N.C.-based production.
Members working on the production will also receive back pay and benefits for completed pre-production work. The union says that the agreement covers not only Season 3 but “subsequent seasons” as well, though the specifics on the deal length were unclear. So far, the show is only renewed through Season 3.
Beast Games is a competition-style unscripted series that co-created and hosted by MrBeast, also known as Jimmy Donaldson. It features 1,000 players competing for a $10 million cash prize.
IATSE says Season 2, which launched on Prime Video earlier this year, was made under union agreements, but the producers began production on Season 3 with a non-union crew.
“Organizing season three of Beast Games boiled down to IATSE solidarity in this difficult production environment,” Michael F. Miller, Jr., IATSE’s Director of the Motion Picture & Television Production Department said in a statement. “As employment in our industry continues to face challenges from predatory employers looking to take advantage of the industry contraction, our members and their Local leaders are showing that they have the strength to stand together to maintain standards in the face of repeated attacks on their livelihoods by greedy employers.”
