I hope you're hungry, because Dosa Divas storms out of the kitchen today

I expect that writing this up is about to make me quite hungry. Dosa Divas! It's the latest small-scale RPG from Outerloop Games, the same devs behind 2023's Thirsty Suitors. Where their previous game was all about battling off unsuitable suitors, food takes centre stage in Dosa Divas, pitting you as a pair of sisters and their trusty ancient spirit-mech who are "on a mission to defeat a rotten fast food empire and reconnect communities with their traditions." And it's out right now!

For those unfamiliar with Dosa Divas, the game takes a turn-based combat approach that very quickly reminded me of a childhood favourite, the Mario & Luigi RPG series. By that I mean there's almost a rhythm element to the battles, with certain moves encouraging you to time the impact of your attacks just right for more damage. Always felt like a very involved form of RPG combat that kept you on your toes, so it's nice to see it in Dosa Divas too.

A thing that immediately appealed to me about Dosa Divas is its understanding how food acts as a community bridge builder. The loft goal of taking down a fast food corporation is obviously only really achievable in the realm of fiction. But the story beats it proclaims to offer up whereby you forge new and reconcile old relationships through food feels distinctly human and grounded in a game that's otherwise quite fantastical. I've only had a go at the demo, mind, so how successful it is I can't tell you. I'm charmed nonetheless by what I have played.

It also, I am pleased to say, runs at a nice and tight 13 hours, according to a press release. The perfect RPG length if you ask me (just don't tell the ride-or-die RPG lovers I said that). If what Outerloop Games have cooked up takes your fancy, Dosa Divas is available to pick up on Steam right now, with a little launch discount too. Oh, and I was right, my tummy is in fact rumbling.
