EXCLUSIVE: Hulu is developing The Kids from S.I.P.P.Y., an animated action comedy series from writer-EPs Branson Reese and Nicole Silverberg, Deadline has learned.

Hailing from studio 20th Television Animation, the show centers on three nerdy misfit high school freshmen who are recruited for an elite secret spy school. In addition to Reese and Silverberg, Steven Fisher and Trevor Engelson will executive produce for Underground, alongside Patrick Newman of Mosaic and Tovah Silbermann.

News of The Kids from S.I.P.P.Y. comes at a busy time for Hulu on the animation front. Recently, they picked up Deano, a half-hour adult animated comedy from creators Dean Thomas and David Ferrier, and also announced development on Swap Meet, a half-hour animated comedy starring comedian Ralph Barbosa, who will exec produce alongside writer Isaac Gonzalez.

The Kids from S.I.P.P.Y.‘s Reese is an LA-based writer, actor, and cartoonist originally from our nation’s capital. He created and starred in the FX cartoon Swan Boy, based on his cult comic of the same name; can currently be heard voicing Frank Lloyd Light in PBS Kids’ City Island; and is supervising producer on the new Netflix animated comedy Strip Law, on which he also voices several characters. He has also written for We Bare Bears and Oh My God Yes, created the D&D podcast Rude Tales of Magic, and is the author of the comics collection Hell Was Full.

Silverberg is an Emmy-nominated and WGA Award-winning writer and comedian originally from Tucson, AZ. Most recently, she developed a comedy at NBC with The Lonely Island and before that, she created Bad Crimes at Netflix, an animated comedy produced by Greg Daniels and Mike Judge. Silverberg was a supervising writer at Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, where she won a GLAAD Award, and was a longtime editor at Reductress, the online satirical women’s magazine.

In February, unveiling its new Netflix adult animated comedy series Strip Law, Underground also recently announced development on Anchivo Motors, an adult animated comedy series from Brett Cawley & Robert Maitia, which they’ll produce.

Reese and Silverberg are represented by WME. Reese is also repped by Mosaic and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz; Silverberg by Underground and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
