A key How to Train Your Dragon 2 character who was previously missing from the announced live-action cast will now be played by a Ted Lasso star.
How to Train Your Dragon 2's confirmed cast features Mason Thames as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid, Gerard Butler as Stoick, Nick Frost as Gobber, Julian Dennison as Fishlegs, Bronwyn James as Ruffnut, Gabriel Howell as Snotlout, and Harry Trevaldwyn as Tuffnut. Cate Blanchett, who voiced Hiccup's mother Valka in the 2014 animated movie, will also play her in live action, while Ólafur Darri Ólafsson takes on the role of the villainous Drago.
Now, Phil Dunster, known for portraying fan-favorite character Jamie Tartt in Ted Lasso, has been cast as Eret. The news comes just two days after director and writer Dean DeBlois shared on his Instagram that filming had begun on the live-action How to Train Your Dragon 2. In the animated sequel, Eret was voiced by Game of Thrones' Jon Snow star Kit Harington. The character works for Drago as a dragon trapper.
