‘How To Survive Without Me’: Joe Romano To Play Younger Version Of Dad Ray, Katie Aselton & Will Yun Lee Also Cast As Guest Stars In HBO Max Pilot

EXCLUSIVE: Joe Romano (Somewhere in Queens), Katie Monds (Chicago P.D.), Katie Aselton (The League), Richard Blackmon (A Simple Machine) and Will Yun Lee (The Odyssey) are set to guest star in HBO Max drama pilot How to Survive Without Me, from Greg Berlanti, Bash Doran and Warner Bros TV.

They join the pilot’s main cast Ray Romano, Joshua Jackson, Kaley Cuoco, Julia Schlaepfer, Jack Ball, Kylar Miranda, Julian Grey, Scarlett Abinante, Tommy Dewey, Matthew Kellison, Colette Porch, Ella Rubin, and Rita Wilson and previously announced guest star Genevieve Angelson.

How to Survive Without Me picks up in the wake of matriarch Beverly’s (Wilson) passing, finding that the De Angelis family have begun to drift, unsure how to manage their complicated, evolving lives without her guidance.

Joe Romano will make his TV acting debut playing an younger version of family patriarch Leo DeAngelis, played by his dad, Ray Romano. Seen in flashback, recently married and powerfully in love, young Leo is ready to dive into his future and to work as hard as it takes to achieve his vision for his family.

Monds will play an younger version of Leo’s late wife Beverly (Wilson). Seen in flashback, young Beverly is a budding screenwriter, overwhelmed but ready to face whatever challenges may come as she starts a new chapter with the man she loves.

Aselton will play Parker. With a soft beauty and a steel spine, Parker is the manager of a new members club she is about to open alongside her husband Josh, with Cooper (Jackson) as the head chef — her culinary school friend and former flame.

Blackmon will play Josh. After making a fortune disrupting something or other, Josh is now the business-minded investor in the member’s club he’s opening with his wife Parker and where his best friend Cooper (Jackson) will be debuting as head chef.

The Good Doctor alum Will Yun Lee will play another doctor, Dr. Marcus Chen. With an easygoing confidence and calming presence, Dr. Marcus Chen is the oncologist who treated Beverly after her diagnosis. He continues to lend a comforting ear to certain family members after her passing.

The pilot was written by Berlanti and Doran from a story by Berlanti, Doran and Robbie Rogers. Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman and Rogers are exec producing via Berlanti Productions and its overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.
