If you’ve been playing Sword Fantasy for a while, you may have come across a quest asking you to kill the BroodMother (five times). If you follow the marker, you’ll end up at the door to the Whispering Webs (the first dungeon), and there’s a good chance you won’t know what to do next.
We’ve been in this situation, and that’s why we made this guide.
How to enter Whispering Webs
You need a key, the Mysterious Key, to be more specific. For some reason, the game will tell you “Oops… it seems like something is missing…” which, OBVIOUSLY (not) means, you need a key for the dungeon door that clearly doesn’t even have a keyhole.
So, where do you get the key? From the Giant Spider boss, nearby, which you fought a few times for your previous quests. So, how come you don’t have the key yet?
Getting the key to Whispering Webs
As mentioned above, the key drops from the Giant Spider boss. It’s actually one of the five possible drops, the highest one, in fact. So what’s the drop rate? 3%! Yes, a very important key item which pretty much halts your progression until you have it only has a 3% chance drop rate. Either the developers wanted to artificially inflate the gameplay, or they just messed up the drop rates. This is why the game is still in Alpha.
As you can imagine, you’ll need to keep killing the Giant Spider boss over and over again until it, finally, drops the key. We don’t’ want to discourage you, but it took us over 50 kills for the key to finally appear.
Bug warning:
Once you finally get the key to drop, don’t use it immediately. Walk around the map, make sure the key is in your inventory, and relog into the game. Once you log back in, check and see if the key is still in your backpack. If it is, feel free to go to the Whispering Webs.
We went to the dungeon immediately after getting the key, we couldn’t open the door, so we logged back in. When we got back into the game, OUR KEY WAS GONE. So, don’t be like us.
While you farm the Mysterious Key
Depending on your luck, you may end up killing the Giant Spider even more times than we did. To help you pass the time, you should farm XP and better gear while you wait for the Giant Spider boss to respawn.
Refer to our Super-fast early XP farm in Sword Fantasy guide for an effective leveling method, which goes well with farming the Mysterious Key. You may be here for a while, so you may as well level up your character and weapon mastery.
By the time we finally got the key, we were level 26, and hopefully, you’ll be able to get it much sooner.
Hopefully, you don’t mind the grind. If you need more help with Sword Fantasy, check out our Ultimate Sword Fantasy Beginner’s Guide for some tips and tricks.
