Baramos is a late-game boss in the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, designed, in placement, stats, and abilities, to be one of the most difficult in the game. Aptly, you'll encounter Baramos in Baramos' Lair, which is located south of the city of Isis, and requires access to the phoenix Ramia to access. Once you're in, they'll be in for a tough fight. Baramos is located at the very end of an already difficult dungeon, and you're likely to be low on potions and MP by the time you get there.
In the remake as in the original DQ3, the man (or monster) himself is also quite formidable, lobbing tons of powerful spells at the party in quick sequence. You'll need to start with the right selection of gear and Vocations in Dragon Quest 3, and then approach the fight with a balanced, patient strategy in order to have any chance of success. Here are some tips and tricks you can use to get the upper hand over Baramos.
How To Prepare For The Baramos Boss
Party Comp & Useful Items
Before even attempting the fight with Baramos, ensure that all your characters have all their equipment upgraded to the best set of items they can get at this stage of the game, most of which will likely be bought in Isis. Any armor, accessories, or shields that allow your party to defend against breath attacks should also be equipped - things like the Shield of Heroes and Armour of Radiance. Also double-check to make sure that everyone in the party has multiple healing items in their inventory, including as many Medicinal Herbs and Yggdrasil Leaves as they can carry.

As you proceed through Baramos' Lair, be on the lookout for a portal. Once you encounter it, you've reached the entrance to the boss room; this portal is your last chance to return to the entrance. Don't be afraid to use it, then cast Evac and Zoom to return to Isis and get a good night's sleep, also stocking up on any potions you might need. Spend some time reconfiguring your party if need be: you'll definitely want a Sage, or a Mage and a Priest, for what's to come.
With all that in mind, you can return to the portal and interact with it to be teleported directly to the spot outside Baramos' room. Do a final check of your party and equipment, and enter when ready.
How To Defeat Baramos
Buffs & Debuffs
By this point in the game, each member of your party probably has a pretty clearly defined role. During the fight with Baramos, everyone should stick to their task as much as possible, only taking on other efforts when the situation permits. Your Priest or Sage should spend every turn healing whoever needs it most. If no one needs it, make sure everyone has some kind of buff on them - Kabuff or Acceleratle work well here. They should also cast Sap on Baramos to lower his defense when there's no urgent need for healing.
On Dragon Quest (normal) difficulty, you should be at least level 30 before you attempt to fight Baramos, but more can't hurt.
If everyone is healed and buffed, the Sage/Priest can attempt to weaken Baramos with spells like Fizzle or items like the Staff of Antimagic, both of which should prevent him from casting spells. Unfortunately, Baramos is pretty resistant to these abilities, so it's rare that they'll actually take effect. When they do work, though, they're good for a few free turns of attacking and healing.
No matter how hard you try, death is basically inevitable during this fight. Hopefully, you've prepared well, and have a Priest with Zing in your party, along with lots of Yggdrasil Leaves in your party members' pockets. Meanwhile, any damage dealers in the party should simply focus on reducing Baramos' HP as much as possible. He can heal a significant portion of his HP each turn, so if you fall behind, he can easily undo all your hard work in just a few short turns.
Finally, keep in mind that, when Baramos gets to half HP (when his name in the battle menu turns yellow), and then again when his HP is very low (when his name turns orange), he'll cast Inferno. This is a whole-party breath attack that can devastate an unprepared player. Make sure that everyone's HP is as high as possible when Baramos reaches these milestones.
With all that in mind, you should eventually be able to defeat Baramos and move onto some of the final twists in DQ3's story. It may still take multiple attempts to get past him since, as one of the hardest battles in the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, luck is always a factor in this fight.
