Hope Davis has joined the NBC drama pilot “Protection,” Variety has learned.
Davis is now the second cast member announced for the pilot, following the casting of Peter Krause. The project was picked up to pilot at NBC in January.
The logline for the show states:
“When a U.S. Marshal falls in the line of duty, a seemingly cut-and-dry case turns into a deadly conspiracy as a family of law enforcement agents become the target of a mysterious assassin. Bridging personal differences and crossing professional boundaries, the Thornhill family must use the expertise from a lifetime of protecting civilians and politicians to protect one another and bring the killer to justice … even if it means betraying their sworn code.”
Davis will star as Joan, described as “a federally appointed US Marshal, Joan is strong, steely and commands respect at work.”
Davis is a three-time Emmy nominee, most recently getting a nod in the outstanding guest actress in a drama category for her work in the hit HBO series “Succession,” in which she played Sandi Furness. She was previously nominated for the 2010 TV movie “The Special Relationship” and for fellow HBO show “In Treatment.” Her recent film credits include Kelly Reichardt’s “The Mastermind” and Jay Duplass’ “See You When I See You.”
She is repped by UTA and Kipperman Management.
“Protection” hails from writer and executive producer Josh Safran. Jenna Bush Hager is also an executive producer, as is Ben Spector. Rebecca Thomas (“Limetown,” “Stranger Things”) will direct and executive produce the pilot. Universal Television is the studio.
