It's hard to believe that Hogwarts Legacy was released in 2023, but fans have been searching for alternatives ever since. Although magical school games pop up every so often, a new one is on the way that is currently turning heads.

Coming to Steam, a new fantasy student life simulator is coming, and it could have a pretty big impact on the genre when it hits.

Luenna: School Of Magic Looks Adorable

The Concept Is Intriguing

Luenna Hallway

Although it doesn't have a release date quite yet (or a window), Luenna: School of the Magi now has a Steam listing, complete with an overview and some screenshots to peruse.

Here is what the game is all about, according to developer Evenir Studios: "Luenna: School of the Magi is a fantasy student life RPG. From mellow life sim tasks to in-depth turn-based combat, there are as many ways to spend your time at Luenna as there are stars in the sky! So long as you make it to class on time in between it all, of course. As a person born without magic in an academy of the world’s most adept up-and-coming Magi, you’ll have to work hard to make a name for yourself and fulfill your dreams."

The idea is to "catch, craft, and clash" as you work your way through Luenna. The crafting process involves collecting flora and fauna as reagents and using "spirits" as tools. Luenna claims that it has four student houses and 16 elements, leading to multiple build combinations and an additional layer of strategy.

There's a relationship aspect, including the power to "make new friends" or "pester old enemies." The developer confirms that you can "romance, befriend, or become enemies" with cast members in the game.

There's a café to grab drinks with people at, and you'll have the option to periodically recruit NPCs to your side. There's also an underdog element to Luenna, since the school has "seen better days," and it's up to you to regain its fallen glory.

There's Potential Here

The most enticing element of all, though, is exploration. While your dorm and the school act like a hub of sorts, Luenna also asks players to move around the greater game world, uncovering "threats" along the way. Right now, Luenna is slated for PC release, but a Switch port is a "goal" for the studio.

The addition of extra stakes makes Luenna: School of the Magi that much more interesting, though we've seen the juxtaposition of those stakes mixed with cozy games, and they don't always mix. So far, Luenna seems to be on the right track, and when it comes out, you can find it on Steam.
