We may already know that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is already in development over at Avalanche Software following the success of the first installment back in 2023. However, what many of us do not realize is that, thanks to technological advancements, Hogwarts Legacy 2 will be unplayable for millions upon launch.
With the Harry Potter-inspired RPG becoming one of the best-selling games of 2023, all eyes are on its sequel, especially as even some of its most dedicated fans had their fair share of problems with it. Will the Hogwarts Legacy sequel be an improvement, and if so, will it make some's lack of access all the more frustrating?
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Is Clearly Not Coming To PS4 Or Xbox One
Put simply, Hogwarts Legacy 2 will not be coming to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles due to the fact that both Sony and Microsoft no longer support the old-gen technology. Instead, we can expect it to launch on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, or maybe even the next-gen consoles depending on when the sequel will be released. However, with an estimated 49 million users as of late 2024/2025, the PlayStation 4 is still very much a beloved console, and for those who are yet to upgrade to the PlayStation 5, not being able to play Hogwarts Legacy 2 may just be the final incentive.
As for the Xbox One, an isolated player account based on the console is no longer a concern for Microsoft. Instead, it has been reported that over 500 million monthly users are spread across all platforms, meaning that a fair chunk of this number will be those who still strictly play on the Xbox One. As such, millions of users on both Sony and Microsoft platforms will not be able to play Hogwarts Legacy 2 when it releases over the next few years.
Millions Still Game On Last-Gen Consoles (But GTA 6 Could Change That)
It is surprising to see that millions of players are still dedicated to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, especially considering that their upgrades, the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, are well into their lifespans with even rumors of yet another generation heading for launch soon. However, we are nothing if not creatures of habit and there is no denying that consoles such as the PlayStation 4 are the best of all time, being home to some incredible exclusives.
That being said, with Grand Theft Auto VI also expected to only launch on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, it is expected that millions of players will finally make the upgrade, especially considering that the Rockstar title is expected to be the biggest game launch of all time. For now, however, it is titles such as Hogwarts Legacy 2 which will see millions of players missing out if they are unable or unwilling to make that leap.
