It has been an exciting few months for those highly anticipating the launch of the Hogwarts Legacy sequel. Despite being confirmed to be in development by both Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. Games, Hogwarts Legacy 2 is still yet to receive an official announcement, via cinematic trailer release or otherwise. However, many believe that the day is finally coming, and it is a lot sooner than we had first hoped.
AValanche StudiosThis comes after a busy few months for the Hogwarts Legacy sequel. Back in March, it was revealed that the launch of Hogwarts Legacy 2 would "coincide" with the arrival of HBO's Harry Potter television show, which is set to air some time in 2027. We do not yet know in what capacity the two stories will be interlinked, but if Harry Potter airs next year, it would make sense for Hogwarts Legacy 2 to follow suit.
Additionally, it was also back in March that Avalanche Software hired a brand-new Community Manager for the upcoming sequel. This may not seem exciting to us at first glance, but it is worth noting that a Community Manager is usually hired during the late stages of a game's development to act as a go-between for the game and its community. Together, both of these updates could just hint at Hogwarts Legacy 2 launching as early as 2027.
In the meantime, what about that official announcement? Well, it seems as though that may just be right around the corner if a recent leak is to be believed. Courtesy of Tidux over on Twitter/X, Hogwarts Legacy 2 could be officially announced at the next State of Play event which takes place on 2 June 2026. In a post, they wrote, "SOP- HL2 Soon™", which many have translated to mean that the highly anticipated sequel will appear at the event in at least some capacity, whether this will be our first trailer, or even a release window.
Following the leak, fans took to r/HarryPotterGame to share their thoughts on this potential appearance, and what that could mean for Hogwarts Legacy 2 as a whole.
With the top comment featuring a GIF of a man putting on his clown mask, this may be a repeat of the Bloodborne situation that takes place during every State of Play event, but others are feeling hopeful. "I think we will see a short cinematic trailer," one user suggested. "Not enough to actually know much about the game, but just enough of a teaser to make people excited. I feel like this game will probably be released either quite close to when the actual series comes out or just in the middle between the first and second seasons to keep people Harry Potter-minded." "That would be amazing," another added. "If not the State of Play, then definitely the Summer Games Fest."
Whilst many think that it is more likely that the Hogwarts Legacy sequel will be announced at the Summer Games Fest as opposed to State of Play, it is worth remembering that Hogwarts Legacy was first announced during a PlayStation 5 Showcase despite not being a Sony exclusive. As such, anything is possible, and we have just a few weeks to find out if this recent leak comes true.
