HBO announced today that Color Theories, its new comedy special from Julo Torres, will premiere Friday, March 27 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT and will be available to stream on HBO Max. They also unveiled a trailer, which you can view above.
Coming off an off-Broadway run with the show, Torres’ Color Theories offers a guide to understanding the world through his playful interpretations of colors. Taking the stage in New York City as an expert on the inherent traits of particular colors, the comedian explores the nuances of rule-based navy blue to the rage of red through observations from his life and culture at large. Blending stand-up with other media, the special invites us to see the people, places and things around us through Julio’s kaleidoscopic lens.
Color Theories is Peabody-winner Torres’ second special for HBO, which put out his 2019 hour My Favorite Shapes and also released his comedy series Los Espookys and Fantasmas. An El Salvador native now based in Brooklyn, Torres earned four Emmy nominations as a writer on Saturday Night Live and is also known for his feature directorial debut, Problemista, an A24 comedy he wrote, where he starred opposite Tilda Swinton.
In addition to writing, performing and directing Color Theories, Torres exec produced alongside Matthew Vaughan and Olivia Gerke, with Christian Palomares and Christopher Douglas as co-EPs.
