Harvey Weinstein Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison in New York Retrial

Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 15 years in prison in New York in his felony sex crime retrial for which he was convicted on June 11, 2025.

The former film mogul was guilty of one count of criminal sexual assault against former “Project Runway” assistant Miriam Haley and not guilty of a separate count of criminal sexual assault against model Kaja Sokola, and he was acquitted of a third count. Weinstein originally was sentenced to 23 years in prison as part of this case, but a judge later overturned the verdict and ordered a new trial after it was deemed he did not receive a fair one.

The 15-year sentence split the difference between Weinstein’s attorneys asking for a 9-year sentence and prosecutors seeking a 20-year sentence.

Weinstein still faces another lawsuit in New York and is awaiting re-sentencing in Los Angeles after a judge in June determined that he would need to be resentenced following his prior sentence of 16 years in prison.

In May of this year, a case involving actress Jessica Mann ended in a mistrial after Weinstein had been tried on the case for what was the third time, stemming from an accusation involving an incident from 2013.

Weinstein, 74, is currently serving his sentence at Riker’s Island in New York, and in March, Weinstein sat for an interview with THR’s editor-in-chief in which he maintained that he “did not assault” any of his nearly 100 accusers.

“Did I make a pass at some of these women unsuccessfully? Did I overplay my hand? Yes,” Weinstein said at the time. “Was I pushy or overly seductive? Yes to all of that. Look, I should never have gone out with the people I went out with. I was married to a fantastic woman who had no idea what I was doing. I lied all the time. I improperly used my staff to hide these things. But did I ever sexually assault a woman? No. I never did that.”
