Jason Statham's The Beekeeper 2 is proof that one decades-old action movie story will never die out so long as the genre itself persists. As one of the most famous figures in the action genre, The Beekeeper series is a natural win for fans of the actor and his expansive filmography, which has more often than not seen Statham take on tough guy roles that follow classic traditions of the action genre.

In this vein, The Beekeeper follows on from other Statham movies like The Expendables series, The Fast & The Furious films, and more standalone action releases like Wrath of Man, as well as the wider world of action movies more broadly speaking, and the lines they tend to follow overall throughout the genre's history.

This means it's no surprise that The Beekeeper 2 follows one of the most classic action movie story traditions over the decades. With that said, though, the 2027 movie also using this narrative tradition serves to show how one action storyline certainly isn't going anywhere, making it a more fascinating corner of the action genre in the modern day.

The Beekeeper 2's Story Uses A Time-Honored Action Movie Trend

The Beekeeper 2's trailer already shows that the Jason Statham action movie sequel fully honors its over-the-top genre roots, with endearingly cheesy one-liners and dramatic sequences aplenty.

Perhaps the best way The Beekeeper 2 nods to the history of classic action movies, though, is in what it teases in terms of its story, which is set to have protagonist Adam Clay protecting Jessica Danforth, the President of the United States, from the Beekeeper organization after the faction goes rogue, following on from the retired assassin saving Jessica's life in The Beekeeper itself.

This sets The Beekeeper 2 up to continue the time-honored action movie story tradition of focusing more squarely around its hero protecting the USA's President from assassination, which was arguably one of the most common action movie plotlines of both the 90s and 80s, and is evident in many movies before and after this time.

As such, The Beekeeper 2 joins the likes of Escape From New York, White House Down, and Olypmus Has Fallen, as well as a much, much wider roster of films covering the same territory - though it does so with the luxury of The Beekeeper effectively paving the way for its story, and ensuring it feels like a natural development of sorts.

The Beekeeper 2's President Story Does Make Perfect Sense For The Sequel

While The Beekeeper starts off with a more understated story of a former school teacher who loses all her money and the funds for the charity she runs in a scam, it quickly expands into a far more dramatic tale.

It's eventually unveiled that the President's son, Derek Danforth, was the mastermind behind a major crime ring, leading to a series of events that culminate in Derek trying to kill his mother, and our protagonist shooting him before he can, before taking off at the very end of the movie.

With this in mind, The Beekeeper 2 seeing Adam Clay and President Jessica Danforth interacting once more as another major threat emerges does feel fitting for the series' overarching story. It should also keep things interesting since the President did learn her election campaign was in part funded by Derek's criminal dealings, which is likely to give both her and Adam some complicated feelings throughout the sequel.
