Chris is a Senior News Writer for Collider. He can be found in an IMAX screen, with his eyes watering and his ears bleeding for his own pleasure. He joined the news team in 2022 and accidentally fell upwards into a senior position despite his best efforts.
For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things Bosch, Mission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider's news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.
He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.
His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan's work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.
Harry Bosch is heading back to television, but this time the clock is winding all the way back to the beginning. Bosch: Start of Watch, the upcoming prequel expanding the Bosch universe into the early ’90s, has just added three major recurring players as it continues building out the world around its young lead.
Azita Ghanizada, William Fichtner, and Kathleen Wilhoite have all been cast in key recurring roles in the MGM+ drama, which follows a 26-year-old Harry Bosch during his first days as a rookie LAPD officer.
Set in 1991 Los Angeles, Start of Watch centers on a younger Bosch as he navigates a city boiling over with racial tension, gang violence, and a deeply fractured police department. As he works routine calls and tries to find his footing inside the LAPD, he becomes pulled into a major heist and a wider web of corruption that will shape the detective he eventually becomes. Deadline were first to report the news, and their character descriptions are as follows:
Ghanizada will play Stacy, an ambitious, razor-sharp lawyer drawn to the thrill of criminal power. As a key operator behind the scenes, her budding romance with master thief Cory Harbor pulls her deeper into a dangerous world between professional ambition and personal risk. Fichtner as Calhern, a respected defense attorney turned power broker in LA’s criminal underworld. Wilhoite as Helen, Bosch’s devoted foster mother, whose recent loss of her husband has left a deep wound.
The cast is led by Cameron Monaghan as Harry Bosch, with Omari Hardwick as Eli Bridges, Bosch’s training officer, Ariana Guerra as rookie LAPD officer Rosa, and JD Pardo as professional thief Cory.
Behind the scenes, the series is produced by Fabel Entertainment and co-created by Tom Bernardo and Brian Anthony, with Bernardo also serving as showrunner. Michael Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Jamie Boscardin Martin, and Jasmine Russ executive produce, while Theresa Snider co-executive produces for Hieronymus Pictures.
This week, X marks the spot. Eight conspiratorial questions to see if you're a real X-Files fan... or if you're an alien posing as an agent.
What Is 'Bosch: Start of Watch' About?
In the announcement of the series, Connelly described the project as a personal milestone:
“Being able to see how Harry Bosch became the man we have loved for 10 seasons is a gift to me and his many fans,” he said. “I can’t wait to dig in with Cameron and the writers to explore this uncharted character territory.”
Bernardo echoed that excitement, calling it “a privilege” to tell the story of how both Bosch — and Los Angeles — were shaped in the early 1990s. “We want to honor the faith of Michael Connelly’s legion of readers and the amazing audience that tuned into Bosch and Bosch: Legacy over the years,” he said.
Bosch: Start of Watch will stream on MGM+.
