‘Hamnet’ Producer Hera Pictures Hires Martha Hood As Head Of Film Development

Liza Marshall‘s Hera Pictures has named Martha Hood as Head of Development, Film.

Working closely with Marshall and the senior team, Hood will identify and nurture bold, authored projects for global audiences.

Hood joins Hera from Blueprint Pictures where she served as an in-house Senior Development Executive working across the company’s film slate, including the multi-BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated The Banshees of Inisherin, BAFTA-nominated All of Us Strangers, Wicked Little Letters and Joel Coen’s upcoming Jack of Spades, among many others. She was named a Film London Lodestar in 2022. 

Marshall says, “Following the extraordinary response to Hamnet, this is a pivotal moment for Hera as we expand our feature ambitions and build a slate of bold, internationally resonant films. Martha is an exceptional creative executive with great taste and a genuine passion for filmmaker-led storytelling. She understands how to nurture and support talent while thinking strategically about the global marketplace. I’m thrilled she’s joining us to help shape the next chapter of Hera’s film division.”

Marshall is currently nominated in the Best Picture category at the Oscars for Focus Feature’s Hamnet which recently cleared $93M at the global box office. She also received noms at the PGA awards for the pic, as well as BAFTA, and the Gotham Awards. Overall, Hamnet received a record-breaking 11 BAFTA noms, the most ever for a movie directed by a female filmmaker. The pic won Outstanding British Film and Leading Actress for Jessie Buckley. At the Oscars, Hamnet is up for eight Oscar noms, an Adapted Screenplay nom at the WGA awards. Buckley just won Best Actress at the Actors Awards. In addition, Hamnet won two Golden Globes including Feature Drama and Best Actress Feature Drama.

Up next for Hera is the thriller, The Return of Stanley Atwell, starring Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You, Mary & George), written and directed by Brian Welsh (Beats, Black Mirror), and based on a story by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh – who also serves as EP.
