The 2026 One Chicago crossover trailer reveals the return of Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton. A year after the NBC tradition was revived, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med, are doing it again with a promise that things are going to be more intense. Typically, these crossover events is a way to bring the One Chicago franchise together, which means new tandems across all teams.

During the 2025 One Chicago crossover, Firehouse 51, Intelligence, and Gaffney Medical worked together to save lives after a city building explosion that also strained the train track that ran under it. While Chicago Fire heavy, it was still a great way to get everyone re-acquainted after a series of casting changes for all shows involved. This year, however, One Chicago is banking on familiar faces for its most interesting plot in the upcoming special.

NBC (via TVPromos) has released the first proper trailer for the 2026 One Chicago crossover, which features the unexpected return to the Windy City by former Intelligence members, Halstead and Upton. The clip features a barrage of scenes from the event, including Herrmann being caught in a massive explosion. That said, Halstead and Upton's reunion is arguably the biggest reveal from the promo. Check out the video below:

It wouldn't be unfair to say that the way Chicago PD handled Upton and Halstead's story was met with intense backlash. Jesse Lee Soffer's utterly disappointing exit set up a series of events that effectively ruined all the relationship building between the former professional and personal partners. After ghosting Upton, the pair eventually divorced, prompting her to leave Chicago in search for a new start.

The clip hints that there hasn't been any kind of reconciliation between the pair in the year since both of them left Intelligence — unless Halstead's comment is a flirty quip. Assuming that it's the former, however, bringing both of them back in the 2026 One Chicago crossover will give NBC and Wolf Entertainment the chance to at least make some amends with regard to how they handled their narrative towards the end of their respective times on Chicago PD.

One Chicago 2026's Crossover Changes Its Winning Formula For The First Time Ever

New details about the 2026 One Chicago crossover confirms that NBC is changing its winning formula for the special for the first time in its history.

Whether Upton and Halstead are sticking around for a couple of more episodes beyond the 2026 One Chicago crossover is uncertain at this point. It's worth noting that Tracy Spiridakos is about to debut her new show on USA Network, Anna Pigeon. Given this, the chances of Upton rejoining Intelligence is out of the question. Nonetheless, at least Chicago PD gets a chance to see both of them back during the 2025-2026 TV season. It makes future returns more plausible.
