Halo fans have a lot to look forward to in 2026, with Halo: Campaign Evolved set to launch this year and the rumored Halo 2 and Halo 3 campaign remakes likely in the works as well. However, there still hasn't been an official announcement regarding the next mainline multiplayer PvP game in the franchise, Halo 7, but luckily there's an incredible expansion that will keep you busy until that happens.
Easily one of the best and most popular fan expansions ever created, the Halo: SPV3 mod (via Nexus Mods) is an essential Halo: Combat Evolved experience that every true Halo fan needs to play. Despite being released years ago, it's still considered "the largest and most feature-rich Halo campaign to date."
Halo 7 Be Damned, SPV3 Is A Classic
It Includes New Content, Extended Levels & More
There aren't very many top-tier Halo mods that include such an array of incredible new content as Halo: SPV3, and if you're looking for a reimagined Halo experience that's completely geared toward what fans love and want, there's no better option. SPV3 was originally released almost a decade ago, but still remains a go-to mod for fans of the franchise looking for an original and one-of-a-kind Halo experience.
Halo: SPV3 is a complete overhaul of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign that introduces new weapons, vehicles, enemies, exciting new features, graphics improvements, both expanded and brand-new levels, new story terminals, "and much much more." The mod is estimated to add a total of over 24 hours of playtime on Heroic and Legendary difficulties, and it's free to download right now.
This Is By Fans And For Fans
The Halo: CE Remake Has Nothing On SPV3
With the official Halo: Campaign Evolved remake headed for release this year, and the exciting rollout to PlayStation for the first time in Halo history, it's a great year to be a Halo fan. That said, even though the Halo: CE remake will definitely look a lot cleaner and be optimized for current-gen consoles, it simply won't include some of the amazing features that SPV3 does.
Fans of the mod are still hyped for SPV3 after all this time, with players like SilencedGamer on Reddit calling it the "most ambitious modding effort of the entire Custom Edition community," and SirLagsABot saying it is "one of the best video game memories of my entire childhood ... never been more impressed with a mod team in my life."
While there are countless Halo mods out there that overhaul the campaign experience in dramatic ways, there are arguably no mods that do it on the scale of SPV3. It's great to see the mod still alive and well after almost ten years, and if you're just learning about Halo: SPV3 now, you're in for a treat.
