Guy Ritchie is one of the most prominent, well-respected, and acclaimed filmmakers in all of Hollywood. He's made original hits like Snatch, adapted major projects like Aladdin and Sherlock Holmes, and is often known for films that center on the crime genre.
However, Ritchie has also dipped his toe into the spy genre with The Man from U.N.C.L.E., which received pretty solid reviews. His next foray into spy movies came in 2023 and stands as one of the director's most underrated projects, even though it's actually some of his best work.
Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre Deserved More Praise
In 2023, Ritchie released Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. It tells the story of special agent Orson Fortune, as his team of operatives recruit a big Hollywood star to help them on an undercover mission. Putting actual agents in the field with someone who isn't confident in that area makes for entertaining content.
Unfortunately, the film was mostly overlooked. On a budget of $50 million, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre only grossed $49 million. On top of that, reviews were mixed for the film as it only sits at a 51% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The movie was considered to have a lot of fun action going for it and a charismatic cast, yet they felt the thrills were lacking. Even if that's the case, it's difficult to have a bad time watching this movie. The setup makes for an expert blend of great comedy and some intense action sequences.
It helps that the aforementioned charismatic cast of Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre is must-see. Jason Statham is Orson Fortune, the versatile and talented Aubrey Plaza plays a hacker named Sarah, and Josh Hartnett is the movie star. There's also Cary Elwes, Hugh Grant, and more.
Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre Is Trending On Prime Video
Jason Statham, Josh Hartnett, and Aubrey Plaze in Operation Fortune: Ruse de GuerreWhen it was released, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre was indeed not seen by enough people. When you add in the lackluster reviews from critics, you get a film that people had no issue passing on. However, as is often the case, this movie is finding new life on streaming.
Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre was recently added to Prime Video and actually ranks as #2 on the platform, only behind the brand new Jason Momoa and David Bautista film. That's an impressive feat for a film that nobody really talks about. Hopefully now, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre gets the respect it deserves.
