The upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto VI actually seems to be going ahead for its currently scheduled date in November, after two delays left fans feeling a little anxious about the possibility of a third. As part of that approach to launch, things have started to move around actually buying the game.
In case you missed all the fun last week, Rockstar took to social media to show off the game's cover, and confirm that pre-orders will be going live on June 28. That's all very exciting, but they neglected to reveal the price they expect everyone to pay at the same time. Interestingly, prices have started to emerge online regardless, and they may well be a little higher than fans were expecting.
As first reported by GamesRadar+, French retailer fnac has listed the game for sale on their website at €89.99. If you directly convert that number, then we are looking at the first $100 standard edition game, but there are some caveats to that which should serve as a little relief to those buying in the USA.
Games are generally priced a little higher on the European continent, and it's usually closer to a 1:1 conversion between dollars and euros when it comes to the cost. That would put GTA VI's price at around $90 as well, which is probably $10-$20 more than everyone would like, but less than some may have feared.
The website also posted four additional price variations, presumably for different editions of the game, at $99.99, $109.99, $119.99, to a very significant $199.99 for what will likely be the Collector's Edition. It's obviously quite pricey, but it's not so extreme that it causes controversy right out the gate among fans.
The fascinating element of the price leak above is that there are five different potential price points of the game. What exactly those will look like, and whether they'll all materialize in all regions remains unclear, but it will be curious to see what Rockstar has decided to include with each level of the game's release.
In any case, June 28 is mere days away at the time of writing, so Rockstar will finally have to pull the proverbial trigger and tell us all how much they expect us to pay for GTA VI. Even if it does hit $100, it's a fairly safe bet that there will still be plenty of players waiting in the wings to buy it before launch day.
