Played by Kit Harington in HBO's Game of Thrones from 2011 to 2019, Jon Snow is one of the most recognizable characters in television history. Bagging Harington a Golden Globe nomination, Jon Snow is the actor's best known role, and regardless of how you feel about the character, there is no denying that critics loved his performance as the bastard son of Sean Bean's Ned Stark.
Despite working on previous projects, there is no denying that Game of Thrones made Harrington a household name and served as the breakthrough role for the English actor. However, despite the HBO show coming to an end back in 2019 following eight seasons, the fantasy world created by George R.R. Martin is far from over.
Game Of Thrones Quietly Recast Jon Snow
That is because, back in May 2025, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad was launched by developer Netmarble Neo. Set across the lands of Westeros, the story-driven, action-adventure RPG aims to bring the book and television show setting alive, "with remarkable detail and never-before-seen scale."
However, one thing was missing from the video game launch, and that was the original cast, including that of Jon Snow. Although Snow plays a large role in the game, Harington did not return to the role. Instead, the honor was given to actor Tobias Weatherburn, who took to Instagram back in April 2025 to share the exciting news.
"Jon Snow might know nothing… but I do… pleased to share that I am the voice of JON SNOW in Game of Thrones: Kingsroad!!! Never did I ever think I’d post that. It was a pleasure getting to lend my voice to a character so beloved in the franchise and to get to be in the world of Game of Thrones."
Game Of Thrones: Kingsroad Is Available Now
In Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, you will take on the role of an illegitimate child from a small, humble House in the north. Following the death of your brothers, you are thrust into the dangers and politics of Westeros, as well as the looming threat of winter as you fight to restore your House to its former glory.
Featuring dynamic and immersive ARPG combat, you will be able to choose between three distinct classes: Knight, Sellsword, or Assassin. Not only that, but with beasts from the Game of Thrones universe threatening your very survival at every turn, you had best make use of the other lords in order to earn generous rewards and high-end gear in co-op play.
Despite sitting at a 'Mixed' rating on Steam, Game of Thrones: Kingsroad has found itself earning a 'Mostly Positive' rating in recent months, and so this is definitely one that you need to make up your own mind about. Not only that, but with a brand-new Jon Snow at the helm, how else will you draw those inevitable comparisons?
