Ewan is Deputy Editor for ScreenRant's gaming section. He still quite hasn’t gotten out of his mid 00’s emo phase, and knows more about The Legend of Zelda and Doctor Who than is probably healthy.

Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.

Former Editor of GAMINGbible, Ewan also has words at Kotaku, Den of Geek, NME, and UNILAD. He's appeared on various podcasts, including VGC's and BBC's Let's Talk About Tech.

It's absolutely wild to think about this, but 2026 is the year GTA 6 finally releases. As if that wasn't exciting enough, recently resurfaced gameplay footage has given us a look at the game's absolutely unreal loading times, which look set to help deliver a truly next-gen experience.

The follow-up to GTA 5 was officially announced as in development way back in February 2022, although it has of course been in the oven for longer than that. We got our first proper look at the game in 2023, before a second trailer came in 2025. GTA 6 was originally supposed to have released by now, but has since been pushed back to November 19, 2026.

GTA 6's Loading Times Are Bananas

Waiting is for suckers

Lucia and Jason are together in GTA 6.

With just two official trailers to look at over the course of several years, it's little surprise fans keep flocking back to the gameplay leaks to see what fresh details they can ferret out. One particular snippet, which we obviously can't share here, shows the speed with which GTA 6 can swap between protagonists Jason and Lucia.

It's no secret that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are capable of pretty astounding loading times (just look at Marvel's Spider-Man 2), but one piece of leaked footage that has since been wiped off the internet showed Jason and Lucia in a motel. The game switches from Lucia to Jason in the literal blink of an eye, which is a promising sign for the game's overall load times.

I certainly can't speak for everyone, but I've been actively put off the idea of booting up GTA 5 or Red Dead Redemption 2 because they can take so long to load. If Rockstar's instant character-zapping action is in any way indicative of how long it could take to load into Vice City, I'll be a very happy gamer.

GTA 6 Features Are Already Being Teased

You probably didn't even notice

You probably missed it, but the latest GTA Online update actually quietly introduced a ton of new features that have effectively given us our first glimpse at what Rockstar is cooking with GTA 6.

While we obviously can't see what the new loading times are like, some of the new gameplay elements incorporated into GTA Online include the ability to work out, and many more buildings that can be entered seamlessly, which itself is an encouraging sign with regard to loading times for GTA 6.
