We are finally on the homestretch when it comes to the launch of the most anticipated video game of all time: Grand Theft Auto VI. It has been well over a decade since we received the last entry in the beloved crime-filled title, and with Grand Theft Auto VI already the victim of multiple delays, it is finally expected to launch on 19 November 2026.
We know that GTA VI will be the biggest video game of all time when it comes to sales and popularity, but will it be the biggest game in other ways too? At the time of writing, it is ARK: Survival Evolved (and its remastered version, ARK: Survival Ascended) that take up the most storage on consoles, needing a whopping 400GB of free space. I am no expert, but I do not believe that Grand Theft Auto VI will reach these heights, but according to recent insider claims, it could still do quite some damage to our storage.
According to GTA 6 Intel in a post that has since been taken down, Grand Theft Auto VI will "be just under 200GB", with other "sources" also corroborating this claim. Of course, this rumor has not been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive, and it was already clear to fans that GTA VI will be quite demanding when it comes to storage. However, a whopping 200GB is quite extensive, and fellow fans were quick to share their thoughts in the comments.
"People acting surprised like Red Dead Redemption 2 wasn't 120GB and this game's going to have a bigger open world and look better," one comment read. Another user was pleasantly surprised, adding, "I expected more honestly. Good compression."
However, for a handful of other fans, GTA VI's potential file size does not matter one bit, as they will be making the space whatever happens. "I mean it's GTA 6," another user shared. "It can even take all my home storage because I know it's worth the damn wait."
With Grand Theft Auto VI expected to launch on both Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 this November, it is PC gamers that will be missing out for the first few months of the game's lifespan. At the time of writing, there is currently no information regarding the PC release date for Grand Theft Auto VI, but there is also no doubt that fans will also be clearing out their storage ready for the day it finally does.
