James is a gaming writer from London who has spent thousands of hours exploring titles from every genre. Though he has a particular affinity for multiplayer titles like World of Warcraft, Destiny 2 and League of Legends, he has also put thousands of hours into single-player experiences, from deep RPGs to epic PC strategies. When he's not playing or writing, he can usually be found supporting his beloved Brentford FC.

All of the attention right now is understandably on Grand Theft Auto VI, with Rockstar pumping money and hundreds of thousands of work hours into producing something that they're hoping will match up to fan expectations, however lofty those may be.

With all of that hubbub, it's easy to forget that the developer has an extensive catalog of other titles outside of just GTA and Red Dead Redemption. Whether you're a fan of their impossibly random but actually very good table tennis game on the Xbox 360, or a connoisseur of classy titles like LA Noire, they really have touched on a lot of topics over the years.

If you were a cool kid back in the early 2000s then you'll likely remember the release of a Rockstar game that arguably became one of the most controversial titles in history, Manhunt. It's now back in the spotlight and looking better than ever, thanks to the always impressive work of dedicated modders.

Who Needs GTA 6 When Manhunt Is Back?

Over on ModDB, you can find the page for Manhunt Remixed, an ambitious visual overhaul for the PC version of Manhunt that adds full path tracing and PBR Textures to the entire game. It's a much-needed coat of paint for a game that has, admittedly, started to show its age, but which holds up remarkably well in terms of gameplay.

Underneath an official video showcasing the capabilities of the mod, the comments from longtime fans was predictably positive.

"The gun lighting up the environment looks insane now, especially on the Wrong Side of the Tracks mission," one read.

"Rockstar! Make a remaster of this brilliant game! I know, it's not mainstream stuff and not so popular, but it's one of a kind. Perfect dark atmosphere and great sound and visual design. The most non-typical horror experience that I've ever had," another added.

"Beat the whole game with this mod multiple times. Definitely the best looking this game has ever been. But I will say the mod still needs some work. Still awesome and the best way to play IMO," a third said.

Manhunt Is As Controversial As Ever

In the years since Manhunt first released, plenty of games have come along that are usually only whispered in the darkest corners of online forums, but few have the mainstream controversy that this game received when it first dropped.

Rockstar have never been particularly afraid of pushing boundaries, and Manhunt is probably the greatest example of that. If you've never played through it, it is worth a go at least once, just to see what all the fuss is about.
