A lot of cast members have exited Grey's Anatomy over the years, including Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, T. R. Knight and Patrick Dempsey. Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver joined their ranks this year when the Grey's Anatomy season 22 finale featured their characters Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman's farewells.
ABC announced that Grey's Anatomy season 23, sans Owen and Teddy, will premiere on Thursday, October 15 at 10 p.m. EDT. This news was revealed as the network unveiled its premiere dates for the 2026 fall TV season, which kicks off with Monday Night Football on September 14, followed throughout the rest of the month by Dancing with the Stars, RJ Decker, 20/20, America's Funniest Home Videos, Scrubs and Shark Tank.
Then October will see the return of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, Abbott Elementary, 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Nashville and Grey's Anatomy. The long-running medical drama will be the very last show this fall that ABC brings back to the air as it retains its Thursdays at 10 p.m. timeslot, which the show has held for the past two seasons. Before that, Grey's Anatomy aired at 9 p.m.
The Bachelor, Bachelor in Paradise, Celebrity Jeopardy (originally set for fall 2026 before being delayed), The Rookie, Will Trent, High Potential and Shifting Gears won't return until 2027, along with new Rookie spinoff The Rookie: North and a new Texas-based spinoff of Grey's Anatomy.
