As DC's Green Lantern lore continues to introduce its powerful new Lantern color, fans now know what makes the new 'Chrome Lanterns' so different from regular Ring Slingers. Here's the unique ability that DC just confirmed only 'Chrome Lanterns' possess.

Last month, DC introduced a new type of 'Chrome Lantern' - heroes who draw on the full Emotional Spectrum, rather than specializing in a single color. The new type began with Guy Gardner, who forged a link to the spectrum as the Corps' messiah-like 'Allsight.'

Now, fans are learning what the 'Chrome Lanterns' can actually do, and the thing that makes them unique compared to the Green, Red and Blue Lanterns of the past.

Green Lantern Clarifies 'Chrome Lantern' Powers

In today's Green Lantern Corps #20 - from Morgan Hampton, Juan José Ryp, Fernando Pasarin, Oclair Albert, Arif Prianto, Romulo Fajardo Jr., Matt Herms and Dave Sharpe - iconic Lanterns Kilowog and Sinestro experiment with their new powers. Despite constant battle and gigantic constructs, Sinestro notes the new rings appear to have "limitless" power.

In DC continuity, Green Lantern rings tend to have enough charge for 24 hours of use before needing to be recharged - even less if the wielder summons extreme constructs. 'Chrome Lanterns' seemingly have a LOT more energy to throw around, with Kilowog and Sinestro so far failing to find any limit to the new Lantern type. While infinite charge hasn't yet been confirmed, these rings clearly store orders of magnitude more power than fans are used to.

The comic compares the new 'Chrome Lanterns' to the incredibly powerful White Lanterns, but with far less volatile abilities. The new Lanterns draw their power from the Emotional Entities - the embodiment of each aspect of the Emotional Spectrum, who have struck a new bargain through Guy Gardner.

The Entities have agreed to supply power to the new united Lantern Corps so long as they're respected and kept fed on a supply of extreme emotions, with each Entity being housed in one of the new 'Alpha Guardians.'

Now We Need To Know About The 'Alpha Guardians'

While this issue clarifies the abilities of the 'Chrome Lanterns,' fans still don't know much about the Alpha Guardians who are guaranteeing their powers. This new team are former members of the multi-colored Corps, chosen as the ultimate host for each Emotional Entity, and seemingly charged with keeping them fed and happy.

Like the 'Chrome Lanterns,' the Alpha Guardians haven't existed long, and fans don't yet know exactly what they can do. Thankfully, DC has promised the next few issues will see them in action, as Krona returns to test this new team to their limits. With regular lanterns now able to sync with the entire spectrum, it will be interesting to see what DC does to make its remaining single-color Lanterns feel unique.
