Film buffs are livid by the Golden Globes 2025 nominations after Dune director Denis Villeneuve was snubbed in the Best Director category.
Nominations for next year's ceremony were announced Monday morning, with Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo both receiving nods for their work in the musical film.
Fans were furious though after realizing that acclaimed movie maker Villeneuve, 57, had been overlooked as best director for Dune: Part Two, which was released in March.
Battling it out for the accolade instead are Jacques Audiard for Emilia Pérez, Sean Baker for Anora, Edward Berger for Conclave, Brady Corbet for The Brutalist, Coralie Fargeat for The Substance, and Payal Kapadia for All We Imagine as Light.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, many blasted 'unserious' voters for slighting Villeneuve and branded the oversight 'disrespectful.'
One slammed: 'HOW ON EARTH DID DENIS VILLENEUVE GET SNUBBED???!!! IN WHAT TIME LINE ARE WE LIVING IN?'

A third demanded to know: 'What does Denis Villeneuve have to do to get some goddamn respect around here?'
'Witnessing the goat Denis Villeneuve being disrespected on sight this award season as best director is going to be very hard so they better fix this s**t immediately,' blasted a fourth.
A fifth quizzed: 'What more does Denis Villeneuve have to do!!!!!'
'No Denis Villeneuve for best director,' a sixth penned. 'What an absolute joke. Unserious voters.'
A seventh continued: 'Denis Villeneuve snub!! Y'all are going to hell!!!! Omg!!!'
'I'm sorry but how is Denis Villeneuve constantly snubbed,' added an eighth.
'Dune 2 was incredible, like how do you even begin to make that, and it'll go down as one of the best sci-fi franchises... this better not be a preview of the Oscars because I'll riot.'

Starring Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Christopher Walken, and Lea Seydoux, Dune: Part Two is the second instalment of Frank Herbert's novel of the same name.
Although Villeneuve was not recognized in the director category, Dune: Part Two has been nominated for Best Picture – Drama.
It is up against The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Nickel Boys, and September 5.
The film is also up for Best Original Film Score.
In 2022, the original Dune film was nominated for two Golden Globes Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director.
It was also nominated for two Academy Awards in the Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay categories, as well as Best Film and Best Adapted Screenplay at the Baftas.
Villeneuve wasn't the only star who failed to pick up a nod for the Golden Globes 2025, however, with Jennifer Lopez and Meryl Streep also missing out.
Lopez's performance in the sports biopic Unstoppable was ignored as was Streep's recurring role in the hit series, Only Murders In The Building.
Jon M. Chu and Ridley Scott were also surprise omissions from the Best Director - Motion Picture category, despite respective blockbusters Wicked and Gladiator II enjoying enormous box office success.
The 2025 Golden Globes will take place on January 7 and with comedienne Nikki Glaser serving as host.
