With Scream 7 poised to rule the box office next week, studios steered clear of standing in its way in the post-Presidents' Day release window. A handful of smaller movies made a run for it, however, in an attempt to maximize their chances of success. While last week's releases Wuthering Heights and Goat are vying for the number one rank, a trio of new releases will compete for the lower spots on this weekend's chart. Among them is the faith-based sequel I Can Only Imagine 2, which is projected to gross around $10 million over the weekend after grossing nearly $4 million including previews on opening day. 20th Century Studios' horror film Psycho Killer is tanking, with a projected weekend gross of just $2 million for the weekend. Written by Se7en scribe Andrew Kevin Walker and starring Barbarian's Georgina Campbell, the movie holds a rare 0% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.

Sandwiched between these two films is the third new release of the week, the satirical thriller How to Make a Killing, in which Glen Powell plays a disinherited heir to a wealthy family who decides to take what's his by eliminating his relatives. A cross between Succession and Ready or Not, How to Make a Killing is directed by John Patton Ford, who made his directorial debut a few years ago with the well-received thriller film Emily the Criminal, starring Aubrey Plaza. Unlike that movie, however, How to Make a Killing has been received mostly with a shrug by critics. It holds a 48% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a consensus that reads, "Deploying Glen Powell's magnetic likability to head-scratching ends, this tonally bizarre comedic thriller wants to eat its rich and have it, too."

Here's How Much 'How to Make a Killing' Is Expected to Make this Weekend

The movie is also underperforming at the box office, with a projected haul of just $3 million for the weekend. How to Make a Killing grossed around $1.5 million, including previews, on opening day. The movie is being distributed domestically by A24, which is now firmly in its movie-star era, and is basking in the success of its most expensive film, the Oscar contender Marty Supreme. With a budget of $65 million, Marty Supreme has grossed over $150 million worldwide so far. Powell hasn't had the same success as a leading man as Marty Supreme star Timothée Chalamet; he last starred in Edgar Wright's The Running Man, which grossed just $68 million worldwide against a reported budget of $110 million. You can watch How to Make a Killing in theaters. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
