Gio Reyna announces wife’s pregnancy after scoring trivela goal in World Cup win

2 hours ago 8

Gio Reyna put the finishing touch on the US men’s national team’s 4-1 demolition of Paraguay in their 2026 World Cup opener on June 13, then used the biggest stage in sports to share some personal news. His wife, Chloe Ortolano, is expecting their first child.

The 23-year-old scored in the 98th minute with a trivela, a curling strike hit with the outside of the foot, the kind of goal that makes highlight reels feel inadequate. He celebrated by covering his ears before being swarmed by teammates, a moment that instantly became one of the tournament’s most memorable images.

The goal and the announcement

Reyna’s trivela sealed a dominant performance for the USMNT at LA Memorial Coliseum, their first match of a World Cup being hosted across the US, Canada, and Mexico.

After the match, Reyna revealed he had known about the pregnancy for a couple of months. He called the World Cup stage the perfect time to share the news with the world.

Chloe Ortolano played collegiate soccer at Providence College from 2019 to 2022. The couple married in July 2025, making this announcement roughly a year into their marriage.

Soccer runs deep in the Reyna bloodline. Gio’s father, Claudio Reyna, captained the USMNT and appeared in four World Cups. His mother, Danielle Reyna, represented the US women’s national team.

The match itself showcased the tactical vision of coach Mauricio Pochettino, who has transformed the USMNT into a cohesive unit capable of controlling possession and punishing opponents in transition.
