Why SAG Awards Changed Its Name to Actor Awards Moving Forward

The Actor Awards red carpet is approaching its call time.

The annual awards show—formerly known as the SAG Awards—is no stranger to unforgettable fashion moments. While the Kristen Bell-hosted event will stream live on Netflix Mar. 1 to recognize the best film and television performances of the year, it’ll also showcase some of the year’s best-in-show fashion moments. And if past events are any indication, style lovers are in for a treat.

Take, for instance, at the 2025 ceremony, where Selena Gomez wore her most elegant look yet in a navy Celine gown. The sophisticated look featured an off-the-shoulder neckline and a high slit. For a pop of color, the Only Murders in the Building star opted for a bold red lip.

Another stand-out look from the night was Nicola Coughlan’s Cinderella-esque Dior gown. Indeed, the Bridgerton star was the belle of the ball in a powder blue A-line number. For an edgy touch, she paired the ultra-feminine dress with black leather gloves.

But that’s not all. Just a few years prior, Zendaya—certainly no stranger to wow-worthy style moments—shut the 2023 red carpet down in a pink Valentino gown that featured a dramatic smattering of hand-crafted rosettes. Her old-Hollywood glam tied the look together as she donned a curly bob and statement jewelry.

And the Challengers star has previously given the inside scoop into what inspires her iconic fashion choices.

“I think I’m always just very inspired by the fashion of the decades,” Zendaya told People in 2017. “When you go back in time and kind of explore those silhouettes and kind of find a modern way to do it, everything in fashion just repeats. It’s just the same thing, just repeating.”

“So when you latch on to something from the past, it’s almost like it’s new again, because we haven’t seen it in a while,” she added. “So I love exploring with different things from different decades. It’s fun.”

Fashion also fuels her confidence.

“I think for me, I really have been lucky to find, through fashion, a lot of confidence,” she explained. “For me, dressing up and trying new things is a form of exploring my confidence, exploring what I like, exploring what I enjoy. When I go on carpets, for some people, some people hate this part. This is my favorite part.”

Another red carpet veteran is none other than Sarah Jessica Parker, who wore a custom grey pinstripe suit by Vivienne Westwood to the 2000 event. To top off her office siren look, the Sex and the City alum added a floral brooch to her top.

At this year's Actor Awards, there will be a red carpet dress code for the first time in the event’s 31-year history. Indeed, celebs will be expected to dress according to “Reimagining Hollywood Glamour From the ’20s and ’30s."

Further proof that fashion will be front and center is the ceremony’s collaboration with Elle.

"The dress code aligns with the overall creative vision of this year’s show and invites attendees to reexamine classic ideas of glamour reimagined for a modern red carpet," Elle said in a Jan. 15 statement. "Expect sensual gowns, dramatic silhouettes, and fluid, boundary-pushing designs, all inspired by the timeless Art Deco spirit that defined early Hollywood.”
