If you are anything like me, then you will be wondering why George R.R. Martin has the audacity to be out enjoying himself when it has been 15 years since the last entry in the A Song of Ice and Fire series was released. Ok, I am kidding, but with fans of the books that inspired the hit television show Game of Thrones waiting well over a decade to see how the story concludes, it is safe to say that we are starting to lose hope.
First released way back in 1998 with the first book, aptly titled A Game of Thrones, the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin has captured the hearts and minds of millions of fans ever since, especially as it went on to inspire one of the most successful television adaptations of all time.
However, with the most recent entry, A Dance With Dragons, being released way back in 2011, time is ticking. That being said, in the meantime, one hit strategy video game is currently receiving the Game of Thrones treatment courtesy of one modder over on ModDB.
Ice & Fire Total War: War for Westeros is an ever-growing mod for Total War: Attila and inspired by the A Song of Ice and Fire books, as opposed to the HBO television series. Created by the House of Black & White Mod Team, it aims to completely overhaul the game by adding vastly improved unit visuals, rebalance rosters and combat pacing, and cleaner faction identities and a better gameplay flow.
Not only that, but Ice & Fire Total War: War for Westeros has recently welcomed a brand-new update that aims to add even more of the world of Westeros to Total War: Attila. This includes five brand-new factions: The Wildlings, The Night's Watch, House Tarly, House Velaryon, and House Celtigar. Each faction comes with their own roster and is available with the latest version of the mod. This brand-new update also comes alongside a new map, as well as siege battle changes, UI improvements, and balance changes.
With over 10,000 downloads, it is safe to say that Ice & Fire Total War: War for Westeros is a hit, and is the perfect way to experience the books in action, especially what it would feel like to be caught up in the various wars that take place across Westeros.
Not only that, but with Total War: Attila currently welcoming a 66% off sale over on Steam, now would be the perfect time to get strategizing and dive into this epic war game with a Game of Thrones-inspired mod to boot.
