EXCLUSIVE: Erich Bergen (Madam Secretary) and Michael Nathanson (Good Night, Good Luck) have been cast in recurring roles in Ryan Murphy‘s FX limited series Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, headlined by Paul Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon, sources close to production tell Deadline.
FX and 20th Television declined comment.
We hear Bergen will play Anthony Radziwill and Nathanson will portray Michael Berman.
Created by Connor Hines, the first installment of the scripted anthology series about sweeping true love stories focuses on JFK Jr. (Kelly) and Carolyn Bessette (Pidgeon). It chronicles their fairytale American royalty courtship and wedding as well as as the couple’s turbulent relationship under the relentless microscope of tabloid media, leading to their tragic deaths in a plane crash off the Massachusetts coast.
Cast also includes Naomi Watts as JFK Jr’s mother Jackie O, Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy, Alessandro Nivola as fashion designer Calvin Klein, and Omari K. Chancellor as fellow fashion designer Gordon Henderson.
FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette is created by Connor Hines and executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Connor Hines, Eric Kovtun, Nissa Diederich, Scott Robertson, Monica Levinson, Kim Rosenstock, D.V. DeVincentis and Tanase Popa. Max Winkler executive produced and directed the pilot episode. It is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television.
The nine-episode first installment of the anthology series premieres Feb. 12 on FX.
Known for his role as Blake Moran for six seasons on CBS’ Madam Secretary, Bergen most recently was seen on Broadway in Boop! The Betty Boop Musical. He’s also known for his critically acclaimed performance as Bob Gaudio in Jersey Boys, a role he performed on stage and reprised in Clint Eastwood’s film adaptation. Also the founder and creative force behind prodco 6W Entertainment, Bergen is repped by Buchwald and Amplified.
Nathanson recently appeared in Good Night & Good Luck, starring George Clooney, on Broadway which is now streaming on Netflix. His recent TV roles include Marvel’s The Punisher, Steven Soderbergh’s The Knick, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, FBI: Most Wanted and feature The Wolf of Wall Street. He also is the creator/host/executive producer of the podcast Playing Dead, produced by Lionsgate Sound. Nathanson is repped by Innovative Artists and manager Kieran Maguire.
