Fujifilm Updates the instax Pal 2 and Link WIDE 2 With New Capture and Print Tools

Fujifilm has announced the instax Pal 2 digital camera and instax Link WIDE 2 smartphone printer, updating the Pal with an optical viewfinder and adding a new Photo Mixer collage feature to the WIDE printer.

The Pal 2 follows the original Pal with several changes to the shooting experience, including the optical viewfinder, a 1.0-inch LCD, five filter themes with six effects each, and a new instax Animation mode that captures 10 frames. The Link WIDE 2 succeeds the original Link WIDE introduced in 2021 and adds Photo Mixer, which automatically builds collage layouts from selected images and can generate up to five variations before you make additional edits.

instax Pal 2

The Fujifilm instax Pal 2 remains a digital camera rather than an instant camera with a built-in printer. It measures 37.0 x 42.0 x 42.3 mm and weighs approximately 41 g, with images stored in internal memory or on microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards up to 2 TB.

Sensor and Lens

The Pal 2 uses a 1/3.06-inch CMOS sensor with a primary color filter. Its high-quality setting records 3,776 x 2,832-pixel images, while the low-quality setting records at 1,280 x 960 pixels. Internal memory holds approximately 100 images, while Fujifilm rates a 1 GB memory card for approximately 400 high-quality images or 3,400 low-quality images.

Its fixed lens has a 28mm-equivalent focal length and f/2.2 aperture, with a shooting range from 8 cm to infinity. Exposure is handled through Program AE, with automatic ISO selection from ISO 100 to 1,600 and automatic shutter speeds from 1/4 second to 1/8,000 second. Exposure compensation is available from -2 EV to +2 EV in 1/3 EV increments, while the camera uses TTL 256-segment multi metering and automatic white balance.

Viewfinder, Display, and Shooting Modes

One of the main hardware additions is an optical viewfinder. A 1.0-inch LCD on top of the camera also lets you review an image before transferring it.

The new instax Animation mode captures 10 frames that can be combined into a flipbook-style animation. The Pal 2 also includes five filter themes, with six effects in each theme. Through the accompanying app, you can choose mini, SQUARE, WIDE, or frameless formats and add filters, text, and stickers.

The built-in flash can be set to automatic, off, or on, with an effective range of approximately 60 cm to 1.5 m. Self-timer options are approximately two seconds and 10 seconds.

Transfers and Printing

The free instax Pal app can use a smartphone as a remote shutter and transfer images over Bluetooth 5.1. A built-in USB Type-C connector provides another transfer option. Fujifilm lists an approximate transfer time of 0.75 second per image over USB and 15 seconds per image over Bluetooth.

The Pal 2 does not print by itself. Images can instead be transferred to compatible instax smartphone printers and hybrid instant cameras. Supported models listed by Fujifilm include the Fujifilm instax mini Link 3, Fujifilm instax SQUARE Link, Fujifilm instax mini Evo, and Fujifilm instax mini LiPlay.

Battery and Build

The camera uses a non-removable lithium-ion battery and charges through USB Type-C. Fujifilm lists a charging time of approximately two to three hours, depending on temperature.

The package includes a USB Type-C cable, hand strap, camera angle adjustment accessory, and one-year limited warranty.

instax Link WIDE 2

The Fujifilm instax Link WIDE 2 is a Bluetooth smartphone printer for instax WIDE instant film. Its main new feature is Photo Mixer in the instax Link WIDE app, which takes images selected from a smartphone camera roll and automatically generates collage-style layouts.

Photo Mixer and App Features

After selecting images, you can use the "Mix it" function to generate a layout and remix it up to five times. The selected version can then be adjusted manually before printing or sharing.

The app also provides frames, filters, emojis, text, and more than 1,600 stickers. Two color settings are available: instax-Rich Mode and instax-Natural Mode.

QR Print Mode lets you place a smartphone-scannable QR code on a print. The code can link to a URL, location, hidden message, or sound recording. Fujifilm says data associated with the sound-recording and hidden-message functions is stored for up to two years. The app can also extract a still image from a video for printing.

Printing

The Link WIDE 2 supports JPEG, PNG, HEIF, and DNG files, with a supported image size of 800 x 1,260 pixels. Printing resolution is 12.5 dots/mm, or 318 dpi, with an 80 μm dot pitch and 256 levels per RGB color channel. The recording system uses three-color OLED exposure.

Fujifilm lists an approximate printing time of 12 seconds. instax WIDE film then takes approximately 90 seconds to develop, depending on ambient temperature.

The printer uses instax WIDE film measuring 86 x 108 mm, with a 62 x 99 mm image area.

Connectivity

Bluetooth 5.1 provides wireless connectivity to smartphones. Fujifilm also lists direct printing from the instax Pal and Fujifilm X-T30 III.

Battery and Build

The internal lithium-ion battery is not removable. Fujifilm rates it for approximately 100 prints from a full charge, although actual capacity depends on usage conditions. Charging takes approximately 90 to 120 minutes depending on temperature and remaining battery level, and power consumption is approximately 3 W.

The printer measures 128.3 x 139.9 x 33 mm excluding projecting parts and weighs approximately 387 g without a film pack. Fujifilm specifies an operating temperature of 5 °C to 40 °C and relative humidity of 20% to 80% without condensation.

A 30 cm USB cable, stand, strap, quick start guide, and one-year limited warranty are included.

The Pal 2 is aimed at you if you want a very small, simple digital camera and value the instax workflow more than extensive exposure controls or a larger sensor. Its 28mm-equivalent fixed lens, automatic exposure system, optical viewfinder, and 41 g body suit casual everyday shooting, while the ability to send files to several instax print formats keeps printing separate from the camera itself. The Link WIDE 2 is aimed at you if you already shoot with a phone or compatible camera and specifically want larger instax WIDE prints, with its new collage tools placing more emphasis on assembling and customizing prints before they are made.

The Fujifilm instax Pal 2 will be available in black or white for $169.95. The Fujifilm instax Link WIDE 2 will be available in Duo Beige or Duo Blue for $179.95. Fujifilm expects both products to become available in late September 2026.
