Warning: There are spoilers ahead for From season 4, episode 4, "Of Myths and Monsters."After four years, From has finally answered an important mystery about Sara Myers (Avery Konrad). In season 1 of the horror series, Sara hears voices that manipulate her into doing horrible things by convincing her that they are necessary to get everyone home. She kills Tobey McCray (Colby Conrad), the man who arrives in Town with Jade Herrera (David Alpay) and leaves the door to the medical clinic open at night, which allows the nocturnal monsters to come inside and devour Bing-Qian Liu (Simon Sinn).
While many of From's mysteries are solved in season 3, the voices Sara heard have remained a lingering and unresolved question. That is no longer the case after season 4, episode 4, "Of Myths and Monsters," as the show's overarching villain is confirmed to be the source of the voices.
The Man In Yellow Is Behind The Voices Sara Has Heard Since Season 1
The Man in Yellow (Douglas E. Hughes) is currently disguised as Sophia (Julia Doyle), and toward the beginning of episode 4, she closes her eyes and begins muttering mysterious words under her breath. Immediately after this, Sara sinks to the floor and begins clutching her head, as the Man in Yellow has brought the voices back and is speaking to her again.
Sophia runs to Sara's side and pretends to be concerned, but this confirms that the Man in Yellow is the one who has been behind the voices all along. Given what's been revealed about the character so far, the reveal is not shocking, but it is satisfying to finally have an answer, and it's one that makes sense.
It's been clear since season 1 that the voices were something different and more powerful than the regular monsters. From his ability to be outside during the day to transforming into someone else entirely, the Man in Yellow has been shown to be significantly more powerful, and the ability to get inside Sara's head, manipulate her, write a message with her own blood, and know seemingly everything about the residents' lives is further proof of that.
In the From season 3 finale, it was also confirmed that the Man in Yellow was the voice on the radio that Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey) heard at the end of season 1. At times, all these different voices and various horrors seemed almost random, but it's becoming increasingly obvious that the Man in Yellow has been responsible for all of it; he's just manipulated and tormented each of the residents in different ways.
Why The Man In Yellow Is Making Sara Hear The Voices Again
After being prominent in season 1, Sara hasn't heard the voices as much in From's other seasons, although they do briefly return in season 3 to taunt her about Fatima Hassan (Pegah Ghafoori) being taken. As for why they have returned now, it is because the Man in Yellow wants to actively control, manipulate, and torture Sara again as part of his larger scheme.
When she doesn't do what the voices ask her to do with the water, Sophia falls into the pool and is injured. Now, Sara thinks that if she doesn't obey the voices, more people will be hurt too. As Sophia explains via the biblical story of Abraham, it wasn't about what Sara was being asked to do, but about testing her into seeing whether she would do it, and now that she has, the Man in Yellow is going to keep exploiting this, and use her to push the residents closer to tearing each other apart.
The voices are only part of it, though, as Sophia is living in Sara's house and will likely use the proximity to manipulate and torment her even further. It is a disturbing development, especially considering how far Sara has come since betraying the other residents in From season 1, but perhaps she will figure out the truth before it is too late.
