Since returning from its midseason break just a few weeks ago, Fire Country has continued to crank up the heat on an already blazing fourth season. The latest revelation that it was actually Tyler (Conor Sherry) who set the Zabel Ridge Fire that claimed the life of the beloved Vince (Billy Burke) is one that has shaken the characters of the hit procedural to their core. In particular, the news was a gut punch for Bode (Max Thieriot), who saw a bit of himself in the troubled teen and took him under his wing over the last several episodes. Now, the show’s primary character is coming to terms with the possibility that not everyone can be redeemed — a theme we’re likely going to see play out over the next several episodes. Today, ahead of Friday’s brand-new episode, we at Collider are thrilled to unveil a first look at the installment titled “Life of a Firefighter.”

Precisely as we expected, Bode’s hang-up over Tyler will be a central force in this week’s episode, as our exclusive sneak peek depicts an intense scene between the firefighter and Tyler’s mom, Chloe (Alona Tal). After returning to the station following a call, Bode’s attention is pulled outside when Chloe shows up with some questions. The dedicated mother is obviously having a difficult time accepting that it was her son who caused such a horrific incident, but her emotions come off as defensive, which immediately rubs Bode the wrong way. Revealing how high the stakes are, Chloe tells Bode that Tyler is considering accepting a plea deal from the DA, which would place him behind bars for the rest of his life. Realizing that there’s more on the line than he thought, Bode snaps back into hero mode and offers his help to his old friend.

Our sneak peek also offers viewers a quick glimpse at the return of Shawn Hatosy (Ready or Not 2: Here I Come), who is slated to reprise his role as Chief Brett Richards in the next episode. As per the official logline:

“As Station 42 battles through a relentless shift, the unexpected return of Battalion Chief Brett Richards (Shawn Hatosy) throws the crew off balance and forces Manny to confront his growing self-doubt.”

Could Bode and Chloe’s Romance Be Doomed Before It Gets Started?

Since Tal’s character stepped onto the scene at the beginning of the fourth season of Fire Country, there’s been a slow burn building between her and Bode. After all, the pair grew up together, but the timing never matched up, which laid the groundwork for sparks to fly this season. But, with the way things are now falling for Tyler, it seems less than probable that the pair will chase the highs and lows that come with a romance.
