While the original Final Fantasy 7 Remake was generally liked, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth brought things to a whole new level. The enhanced freedom and larger cast really made a difference, and there was even more endgame content for dedicated players to dig through. It felt like a natural progression compared to the original, and delighted fans who were sick of seeing Midgar.

We can only hope that Part 3 will be even more open, and it's easy to see why people are so drawn to Rebirth. Everything feels much bigger, and the story is allowed to breathe more, reminding folks of why they fell in love with Final Fantasy 7 in the first place. A few fan-favorite characters don't even make an appearance until Rebirth.

Over on X, a lot of those same fans are celebrating this brand-new look for Final Fantasy 7. I had to do a double-take myself, as someone who has been invested in this series since the start. [via The Gamer]

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Just Got A Great Overhaul

It's Time For A Replay

Final Fantasy 7 characters from 1997

Thanks to modder Stepheroth, we now know what a mish-mash of old and new visuals for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth look like. Fascinatingly, they've used skins that look like the original Final Fantasy 7 battle character models, which somehow fit.

As one fan writes: "It’s crazy how charming and good it looks. Doesn’t seem really out of place despite the mismatched assets that are 30 years apart." Others are heaping praise on the modder: "The second I can play the whole game looking like this, I’m buying it a second time on PC."

The mod is still in development, but you'll be able to find it on Stepheroth's NexusMods page when it's complete. In the meantime, you can check out their extensive number of cosmetic mods, which range from high-res skins that alter the current-generation character models, to retro-inspired skins, or even altered weapons.

If you own Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC, you should consider checking out the modding community. It's been active ever since the launch of the game, and has several years of content and development under its belt. There are a lot of surprises, and some loving homages to the original RPG classic.

In fact, I'm thinking about booting up Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and giving the campaign another go. With any luck, we'll get a window into when we might get Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 sometime this year.
