Ewan is Deputy Editor for ScreenRant's gaming section. He still quite hasn’t gotten out of his mid 00’s emo phase, and knows more about The Legend of Zelda and Doctor Who than is probably healthy.

Ewan oversees the content operation of ScreenRant's gaming output, working with a talented team of writers and editors to cover everything from the latest GTA 6 news to the indie games you need on your radar.

Former Editor of GAMINGbible, Ewan also has words at Kotaku, Den of Geek, NME, and UNILAD. He's appeared on various podcasts, including VGC's and BBC's Let's Talk About Tech.

While Final Fantasy 7 may be one entry in a much larger franchise, the world and lore of Final Fantasy 7 could quite easily be classed as a franchise in and of itself. We've had multiple spinoff games, movies, tie-ins, and a soon-to-be trilogy of remakes that expand and reimagine Cloud's journey with Avalanche.

Now, Square Enix has finished retelling the story of Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7, the 2006 PlayStation 2 spinoff game. For those who might not know, Dirge of Cerberus was a third-person shooter starring Vincent, and takes place years after Final Fantasy 7 (and one year after the movie Advent Children). It's perhaps not the most essential Final Fantasy game of all time (I don't remember it being great), but die-hard fans might want to see how the story continues.

Ever Crisis has, over the last few months, retold the story of the spinoff in its own turn-based style. Instead of releasing Dirge of Cerberus as a full storyline all at once for Ever Crisis, Square Enix chose to release the story in parts. The first part, named Arising Crisis, covered the beginning of the game up to the Arch Azul boss fight. The second part, Breaking Chains ran up to the encounter with Nero the Sable. Now, the final installment, called Chaos Collides is live and available in the game, alongside a new banner and gear for Vincent.

This also means younger gamers who never experienced the hard-to-find PlayStation 2 exclusive can experience the Dirge of Cerberus story in full for the first time ever. Although I should note that the storyline will only remain available in Ever Crisis until June 24.

Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis wrapping up this storyline marks the end of an era for fans as one key storyline wraps up. However, the mobile game has plenty more planned for the rest of the year and beyond, including new story updates, seasonal events, and plenty more for fans to sink their teeth into. If we can't get a Dirge of Cerberus remake (and I don't see that happening any time soon), this is the next best thing for Final Fantasy 7 fans.
