Fans of celebrity chef Khanh Ong roast MasterChef Asia for spelling his name wrong

Khanh Ong fans have roasted MasterChef Asia after the show accidentally spelt the celebrity chef's name wrong in a social media blunder.

The Indonesian-born chef, who rose to fame as a contestant on MasterChef Australia in 2018, is set to feature on the upcoming second series of the show, which premieres next Tuesday on HBO Max.

He was recently featured in a promotional clip for the series shared on social media, in which he revealed his excitement about taking part.

'I am here to champion Vietnamese food! I think I have grown a lot as a chef and that comes through this year,' Khanh said in the clip. 

However, the page misspelt his name in the caption: 'Khahn is MasterChef alumni, but has he grown as a chef?' 

Several followers immediately took to the comments section to roast the show over its blunder.

'I'm begging you to spell his name correctly,' one person quipped, while someone else responded with, 'same'.

'*Khanh*,' another added. 

The page later edited their post to spell his name correctly.

The upcoming series of MasterChef Asia will feature Khanh competing against a host of other former contestants from different versions of the show broadcast around the world, including Therese Lum, who featured on the Australian version in 2021.

Khanh has previously revealed he is on a culinary mission – championing Vietnamese cuisine for a new generation.

'I'm really trying to champion Vietnamese food and do it in a cool, new, young way, because I feel as though if we don't, there'll be a whole generation that will miss out on those traditions,' he previously said on the Channel Ten cooking series.

He explained that his weapon of choice is Vietnamese nước chấm – a dipping sauce made from fish sauce, lime, sugar, garlic and chilli, with optional additions of ginger or finely chopped coriander.

'It's great on salad. It's great on fried things. It's great to dip into. It's great on vermicelli. It's just the all-rounder for Vietnamese cooking,' he enthused.

'I always have a jar of it in the fridge. I actually posted the recipe for it last night because it is like the mother sauce for every single thing.'

He grinned when he recounted what his mum used to tell him growing up. 

'She'd say, "You're never going to get married unless you can balance this sauce properly."

'I think so – every dish I've made it on MasterChef has been a winner. So I think that sauce is the secret.'
